  2. ^C^IKeeps "screen burn in" away

  4. You're going to love the colorful web-like designs that
  5. GOSSAMER creates on your screen when you run the DOS program
  6. or the Windows 3.1 screen saver module on this issue. No
  7. matter which environment you prefer, you'll be able to enjoy
  8. GOSSAMER while your computer is "inactive."

  11. ^C^I---GOSSAMER FOR DOS INSTRUCTIONS---
  12.  
  13. STEP 1 - Copy GOSSAMER.EXE into a subdirectory that is in
  14.          your computer's "path statement." If you aren't
  15.          sure which subdirectories are in your path, type
  16.          "PATH" then press Enter at the DOS prompt, and DOS
  17.          will display your path. NOTE: you do not have to
  18.          copy the program into a subdirectory in your path;
  19.          however, if you do not, you won't be able to run
  20.          GOSSAMER from any location in your directory tree
  21.          structure (i.e., from any drive or directory).
  22. STEP 2 - At the DOS prompt, type GOSSAMER to run the
  23.          program. Be sure to note the controls or command
  24.          line parameters below that alter the design
  25.          GOSSAMER "paints" on your computer screen.
  26. STEP 3 - Press any key to return to the DOS prompt.
  27. STEP 4 - This is an optional step. You may also add GOSSAMER
  28.          to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to automatically run it
  29.          each time you boot up, by making "GOSSAMER.EXE" the
  30.          last line in the .BAT file. NOTE: if you set up
  31.          Clock Worx (issue #77) to do this, you must replace
  32.          that program (CLOCKWRX.EXE) with GOSSAMER.EXE.

  34. ^C^1GOSSAMER FOR DOS COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
  35.  
  36. The following display options may be set at the DOS prompt
  37. when you run Gossamer.
  38.  
  39. At the DOS prompt, type:
  40. GOSSAMER /S....to run Gossamer so that only one set of
  41.                points is drawn (SINGLE).
  42. GOSSAMER /M....to run Gossamer so that two sets of
  43.                points are drawn (MIRROR).
  44. GOSSAMER /Y....to run Gossamer so that four sets of
  45.                points are drawn (SYMMETRIC).
  46. GOSSAMER /K....to run Gossamer so that eight sets of
  47.                points are drawn (KALEIDOSCOPE).

  49. GOSSAMER /?....to view a list of these options
  50. GOSSAMER /C....to run the program in CGA/MCGA mode (b/w
  51.                graphics)
  52. GOSSAMER /E....to run the program in EGA mode (color)
  53. GOSSAMER /V....to run the program in VGA mode (color)

  58. ^C^I---GOSSAMER FOR WINDOWS 3.1 INSTRUCTIONS---

  60. STEP 1 - Run Windows 3.1.
  61.  
  62. STEP 2 - Insert the ODM #81 disk, then access the File
  63.          Manager in Windows.
  64.  
  65. STEP 3 - Use the File Manager to copy the file, GOSSAMER.SCR
  66.          into your Windows directory or folder.
  67.  
  68. STEP 4 - Double-click on the Control Panel icon (usually
  69.          located in the Program Manager).
  70.  
  71. STEP 5 - Double-click on the Desktop icon in the Control
  72.          Panel window.
  73.  
  74. STEP 6 - Select GOSSAMER from the pick list of screen savers
  75.          in the Desktop window.
  76.  
  77. STEP 7 - Click the Setup button to set the following
  78.          options: MODULE, SPEED, NUMBER of POINTS, and 
  79.          PASSWORD Protection. See "Options" below for 
  80.          explanations of each. Make your choices and approve 
  81.          them to return to the Desktop window.

  83. STEP 8 - Click the Test button to view the results. Return
  84.          to the Setup and make adjustments to suit your
  85.          computer and sense of aesthetics.

  88. ^C^1GOSSAMER FOR WINDOWS SCREEN SAVER OPTIONS
  89.  
  90. The following MODULES are available:
  91. BLANK - Turns Gossamer into a screen "blanker." This is the
  92.   default setting for Gossamer and is included only because
  93.   Windows does not provide password protection for its
  94.   built-in "blank" screen saver.
  95. SINGLE - Gossamer draws one set of points.
  96. MIRROR - Gossamer draws two sets of points.
  97. SYMMETRIC - Gossamer draws four sets of points.
  98. KALEIDOSCOPE - Gossamer draws eight sets of points.
  99.  
  100. The following SPEEDS are available: slowest, slow, medium,
  101. fast and fastest. You may select the number of points to
  102. display on the screen at one time. And finally, you may 
  103. enable or disable password protection at will...but don't 
  104. forget the password you select!
