  22. GETTING STARTED
  23. * Hard Disk System - Boot MS-DOS from the hard disk. Insert
  24.   On Disk Monthly in Drive A, then type "A:" and press Enter
  25.   (return). Finally, type "GO" and press Enter (return).
  26. * Two Floppy Drive Systems only - Boot MS-DOS on Drive A,
  27.   insert On Disk Monthly disk #1 in Drive A:, and put
  28.   disk #2 in drive B:. Finally, type "GO" and press Enter
  29.   (return).
  30. * One Drive System only - Boot MS-DOS, then remove your
  31.   MS-DOS disk and insert On Disk Monthly. Type "GO" and
  32.   press ENTER (return).

  34. IMPROVING THE DISPLAY ON SOME MONITORS
  35.   On Disk Monthly senses the display adapter installed in
  36. your computer and adjusts its display accordingly. The On
  37. Disk Monthly menu system utilizes graphics. For this reason,
  38. the CGA menu displays in hi resolution two-color (black and
  39. one other color) graphics mode. CGA users may press the
  40. space bar to change the "background" color while running the
  41. menu.

  43. On some monitors, such as MCGA and LCD displays, the
  44. display may not be acceptable. If this applies to you, use
  45. the following start command(s) instead of "GO" to force a
  46. different mode:
  47.  
  48. * For some LCD or monochrome monitors, type "GO /M"
  49.  
  50. * For some CGA and MCGA monitors, type "GO /C" Note for MCGA
  51.   customers: On Disk Monthly is displayed in EGA mode.
  52.   Since MCGA cards cannot support this resolution, MCGA
  53.   users will view On Disk Monthly in CGA mode.

  55. * For some EGA monitors, type "Go /E"
  56.  
  57. TURNING OFF MARKETPLACE ADS
  58.   You may elect to turn off the Marketplace ads (you'll see
  59. one every time you exit a program) by typing "GO /NOAD" when
  60. you boot each issue of ON DISK MONTHLY.

  62. MOVING AROUND ON THE MAIN SCREEN
  63.   You may select and run programs or other items with the
  64. keyboard or mouse. Both will "behave" like they do in our
  65. other programs and in most commercial software. Use your
  66. mouse, tab or arrow keys to select Program Icons,
  67. Departments, Copy/Info or Help--all on the left side of the
  68. screen. Double click on a Program Icon (or press Enter while
  69. it is selected) to run a program. Use the up/down arrow keys
  70. or mouse to select an item in the Departments or Copy/Info
  71. pick list. A program or other item is selected when the text
  72. is highlighted. A pointer also appears when a program is
  73. selected.

  75. COPYING ON DISK MONTHLY
  76.   To copy individual programs or the complete issue, select
  77. the menu's Copy/Info button, set the drive and path, choose,
  78. a file or the entire issue, then press Enter to copy or Esc
  79. to exit back to the menu (cancel). Use arrow keys or mouse
  80. to move to and set the following options:
  81. * SET DESTINATION DRIVE - Allows user to choose the drive
  82. that files or the entire issue will be copied to. Use arrow
  83. keys or mouse to select drive (red when selected).  If you
  84. are running on a floppy system you may not copy to the
  85. drive you are running from.
  86. * SET DESTINATION PATH - Gives a default path (a new one
  87. that will be created when Enter is pressed), but may be
  88. changed by the user while selected (cursor will appear).
  89. * FILES - Lists each program separately and entire issue as
  90. copy choices. When chosen, a highlight will appear in the
  91. list of files. Arrow up/down to or click on a selection to
  92. be copied. Use horizontal arrow or mouse to exit FILES list.
  93. * INFORMATION - Shows program/file sizes and the number of
  94. files per program as user scrolls through FILES list.

  96. MAIN SCREEN OPTIONS
  97. A. Programs - Each program is visually represented by a
  98.    small icon on the left side of the main screen. When an
  99.    icon is selected (with the mouse, tab or arrow keys), a
  100.    description of the program and its features will appear on the
  101.    right side of the main screen. Click on the icon a second
  102.    time or press Enter while it is selected, to run the
  103.    program. Mouse users may double-click on an unselected
  104.    icon to run a program.

  106. B. Departments - The list of Departments will appear on
  107.    the right side of the main screen when you select the
  108.    Departments button on the bottom left side of the main
  109.    screen. Use the mouse or up/down arrow keys and Enter to
  110.    access the Departments listed there.

  112. C. Copy/Info - A list of Copy/Info choices will appear on
  113.    the right side of the main screen when you select the
  114.    Copy/Info button on the bottom left side of the main
  115.    screen. Use the mouse or up/down arrow keys and Enter to
  116.    choose any of the choices listed there.

  118. D. F1: Help - A brief Help file will appear when you select
  119.    the Help button on the bottom left side of the main
  120.    screen with the mouse or keyboard equivalent (F1). This
  121.    file contains more extensive menu system help. Our
  122.    programs contain their own help files--files that are
  123.    typically printable (using a button, F-key command or
  124.    your computer's Print Screen capabilities).
