Did you know that there are two countries which are completely
surrounded by Italy? Or that Iceland is one of the most volcanic
regions in the world? Or that the Soviet Union borders more
countries than any other nation in the world? On this issue of
ODM, you can learn many interesting facts about our European
neighbors. Studies are always coming out telling us how little
we know about geography, and Europeans are quick to notice that
blank look on our faces when they mention their last visit to
Liechtenstein--well no more!
In addition to a paragraph or two about each country, the
following information is included in GeoTutor:
Official Name (sometimes in the native language as well
as English)
Official Languages
Population
Type of Government
Description and Picture of Flag
National Anthem, Holiday, Motto
Natural Resources, Exports, Imports
Location, Area, Highest Point, and Lowest Point
We plan to have similar programs on future issues which cover
other continents including South America, Africa, and Asia, until
we eventually cover the globe.

^C^SQUICK START^S
Selecting a country works very much like the menus you are likely
used to, whether you use a mouse or not. Click in a country to
select it, then click again for information on that country.
If you don't have a mouse, just use TAB/SHIFT-TAB to select a
country, then press ENTER for information.
^SMouse Emulation^S
If you don't have a mouse, you can use mouse emulation. The arrow
keys move the mouse cursor, and the space bar substitutes for the
left mouse button.
^SMain Menu^S
Click on a main menu option to pull down its menu. Then click
on an option to select it and click again to execute. Clicking
outside an open menu closes the menu.
ALT and the first letter of a main menu item opens that pull-down
menu. Use Up/Down arrow keys to move the menu bounce bar; use
Left/Right arrow keys to move between main menu items. Press
ENTER to execute a menu option; ESC to cancel and close the menu.

^SLEARNING ABOUT THE DIFFERENT COUNTRIES^S
You can click the mouse in any of the countries (or in the Europe
icon) to get information about that country. You can also use
the keyboard to bring up the information. Use your TAB\SHIFT-TAB
to highlight the different countries and ENTER to select it.
^SOUTSIDE ON DISK MONTHLY^S
To run ^BGeoTutor^B outside On Disk Monthly, invoke the batch
file ^BGEO.BAT^B in any of the following ways:
^BGEO^B - Invoke GeoTutor normally.
^BGEO /m^B - Invoke GeoTutor in monochrome mode.
^BGEO /?^B - Invoke a pick-list of available video modes to
choose from, then run GeoTutor in that mode.
These parameters may be issued in any order and in any
combination.
When you issue the /? parameter, you will see an initial
configuration screen that lets you choose the graphics adapter,
or input device that you are going to use. GeoTutor recognizes
all the popular graphics adapters, including Hercules Monochrome,
CGA, EGA, and VGA. On most systems, the program will correctly
detect the video hardware and run without any problem.
Press ENTER from the opening screen to select the default adapter
and mode, but if the graphics don't appear to function on your
system or you wish to experiment with other modes supported by
your system, press "D" from the opening screen to get to a pick-
list of other graphics adapters and modes. Similarly, there is a
menu to choose what kind of mouse you have (if any). Press "I"
to get to this menu. A mouse is not required to run this
program, but it certainly makes things easier.
If you get a message telling you that the graphics driver is
already resident, try removing any TSR's from your system. The
graphics driver used by Geotutor can be installed as a TSR and
therefore checks to see if it is already resident before running
Geotutor. Sometimes it may mistake another TSR for a copy of
itself.
