Using WordPerfect with TXTBook/GRFBook
Below are the minimum steps needed to setup WordPerfect in order to create
TXTBook/GRFBook documents:
1) Start WordPerfect and enter Setup (Shift + F1)
Set Display and Status Line units to "u" - WordPerfect 4.2 units
(column/line units).
2) Enter Format (Shift + F8)
Enter "1 - Line" and set margins as follows:
Margins - Left 0
- Right 0
Enter "2 - Page" and set margins and page size as follows
Margins - Top 0
- Bottom 0
Page Size - Width 80
- Height (24 for TXTBook, 29 for GRFBook)
- Type Standard
3) Return to the edit mode by pressing Enter and then create your document.
4) Save the document in normal WordPerfect format in order to save and store all
of the above format settings along with the document. Type F10 and enter a
filename of your choice.
5) Create an ASCII text copy of the document using TEXT IN/OUT (Ctrl + F5). Note
that WordPerfect's name for ASCII is "DOS Text". I suggest using the same
filename as in step 4 but with an extension of ".TXT".
6) The ASCII ("DOS Text") copy of the document can be loaded directly into
TXTBook by typing:
TXTBook filename.TXT
GRFBook files are loaded in a similiar manner.
To later revise your document, start WP and load the standard WordPerfect
version of the document. Make any changes as required then repeat steps 4 and 5
to create both a WordPerfect version and an ASCII version of revised document.
The above steps were developed using WordPerfect version 5.0. Similiar steps
are used for later versions. The above steps are necessary to override all of
the formatting that WordPerfect assumes will be needed for every document.
I also recommend that you investigate the indexing, table of contents and
cross-referencing features of WordPerfect. These features have the potential to
greatly simplify and speed up the process of creating and revising documents.
