  4.         FIRST LAW OF ACLS
  5.                 1. An arrest will not occur until the ACLS provider begins 
  6.                    to eat.
  7.                    COROLLARY 1. Few arrest would occur if ACLS providers
  8.                                 would not eat.
  9.                    COROLLARY 2. ;Always order food to GO.

  11.         ACLS LAWS OF TIME AND DISTANCE
  12.                 1.  The probability that a patient will arrest increases
  13.                     proportionally with the distance of the crash cart from
  14.                     that's patients room.
  15.                 2.  The severity of acidosis in the arrested victim 
  16.                     increases directly with the resistance met when 
  17.                     injecting an amp of sodium bicarbonate.
  18.                 3.  The probability of an arrest occuring increases 
  19.                     proportionally to the time elaspsed since the ACLS
  20.                     provider last went to the bathroom.
  21.                 4.  The probability that an arrest will occur increases
  22.                     as the time to get off work decreases.

  24.         ACLS GROSS DYSRHYTHMIA RULE
  25.                 1.  If a gross dysrhythmia occurs which is sickening to
  26.                     the provider, the monitor should be discontinued
  27.                     at once.

  29.         ACLS RULES FOR THE ROAD
  30.                 1.  If you stop along the road to assist in a disaster 
  31.                     after midight and do not see a drunk, KEEP looking,
  32.                     someone is still missing.
  33.                 2.  Assume that any physician found at the scene of an 
  34.                     arrest is a podiatrist until proven otherwise.
  35.                        COROLLARY 1; never turn your back on a proctologist.
  36.                 3.  A life or death situation will be created by jogging
  37.                     away from a person complaing of chest pain that you
  38.                     just advised to make an appointment with his private
  39.                     physician.  The seriousness of the circumstanc will
  40.                     increase as tshe date of your trial approaches.  By 
  41.                     the time your ex-patient reaches the witness stand; the
  42.                     jury will be amazed how a person with such serious
  43.                     cardiac problems could have ever run past you 
  44.                     on the track field.
  45.                     COROLLARY 1: Transport all you talk to.

  47.         ACLS RULES OF RESPIRATORY ARREST
  48.                 1.  All persons on whom mouth to mouth resuscitation
  49.                     is performed will have just completed a meal of
  50.                     barbeque and onions which was washed down with beer.
  51.                     COROLLARY 1: Never remove an EOA without suction,
  52.                                  intubation equipment,and lysol
  53.                     COROLLARY 2: Never insert an ET tube without a wet-
  54.                                  suit and goggles.
  55.                 2.  The length of all oxygen tubing will decrease in an 
  56.                     arrest situation, especially if an ambu bag is used.

  58.         ACLS RULES OF EQUIPMENT
  59.                 1.Any life saving equipment will not malfunction unless:
  60.                     a. you need it to save a life.
  61.                     b. the saleman leaves
  62.                     c. the service contract expires.

  64.         ACLS RULES OF COORDINATION
  65.                 1.  Eye to hand coordination diminishes as the provider
  66.                     attempts to inject epinephrine or NaHCo3 into an
  67.                     injection port of an IV tubing during an arrest.
  68.                 2.  Eye to hand coordination and provider panic threshold
  69.                     will decrease as the accessability of peripheral veins 
  70.                     decreases.

  72.         ACLS LAWS OF MEDICATIONS
  73.                 1.  Any medicationwill always be ordered in the least usable
  74.                     unit of measure. Dopamine, for example will be ordered
  75.                     in grains per microgram per kilogram per square inch
  76.                     per millisecond.
  77.                         COROLLARY 1:  In a given drug calculation, any error
  78.                                       that can creep in will do so.
  79.                         COROLLARY 2:  Any error in calculation will be in 
  80.                                       the direction of the most harm.
  81.                 2.  The probability of all allogorhythms is 50% either it 
  82.                     will work or it won't.

  84.         ACLS LAWS OF NATURE
  85.                 1.  Under the most rigorously controlled conditions of
  86.                     cardiac index, pulse rate, stroke index, left
  87.                     ventricular stroke volume, right ventricular stroke
  88.                     volume, total peripheral resistance, pulmonary vascular
  89.                     resistance, oxygen consumption, cardiac rhythm, and 
  90.                     other variables, the heart will do as it damn well
  91.                     PLEASES.
  92.                 2.  10% of the male population over 50 will suffer 
  93.                     acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the other 90%
  94.                     will suffer an ugly one (UMI).
