The Hack Report for July, 1993
Volume 2, Number 7 - report date: June 7, 1993
The Hack Report is a monthly list of hacked programs, hoaxes,
Trojan Horses, and pirated commercial software seen posted for
download on BBS systems across the country and around the world.
The report is intended to help BBS SysOps and Users avoid
fraudulent files.
The information in the report is compiled from reports in the
FidoNet International Echos SHAREWRE and WARNINGS (where the
report is posted as a series of messages on the first Sunday of
every month), reports in other echos and networks, reports from
individuals to the author, and from research done by The
HackWatchers and the author.
Your intrepid Hack Squad is beginning to wonder if chaos is the
normal state of affairs - the vacuum cleaners are working
overtime, but the dust still hasn't settled here at Hack Central
Station since the move from Kyle, TX to Garland, TX. However,
even though a fever has slowed things down on the last night of
work on the report, the report is out. Look for several
sightings of attacks against the popular ARJ archiver again, and
for a rather gutsy move on the part of an author of a popular
modem communications program. Thanks to everyone who has helped
put this report together, and to those that have sent in
comments and suggestions.
This report is published as a public service of the FidoNet
International Echos SHAREWRE and WARNINGS, and by the author,
which means it is free to all readers. Distribution of the file
to other BBS systems is encouraged, subject to these conditions:
1) the latest version is used,
2) it is posted in its entirety, and
3) it is not altered in any way.
You may convert the archive type as you wish, but please
leave the filename in its original HACK????.* format. The
report may also be posted as a bulletin by BBS SysOps,
subject to the above conditions.
Please download, read, and distribute this report: the more
people that see it, the better it can do its job. Thanks
for helping to keep shareware clean!
