  4. Files matching "yymmNNI.ZIP" contain information gleaned from various
  5. sources, mostly from Usenet newsgroups comp.ai.neural-nets, comp.archives,
  6. and the Connectionists mailing list.  "yy" indicates the year, "mm"
  7. indicates the month.  NNI stand for "neural network information", but
  8. should always be interpreted as "artificial neural network information".

  10. Some information from the Connectionists mailing list is tagged 
  11. "Do not forward to other groups".  My policy is to save such messages
  12. to /dev/null, but I might occasionally not see it, so my apologies if
  13. your message to Connectionists only somehow manages to get archived in 
  14. one of these artificial neural network information compilations.

  16. I split the incoming data into a few basic categories.  These are marked
  17. by the file extension.
  18.  
  19.     ANC -- Announcements of conferences, meetings, books, commercial 
  20.         software
  21.     BIB -- Bibliographic data on any subject
  22.     CFP -- Calls for [papers | proposals | participation]
  23.     DIS -- Discussions (at least, ones which *I* thought were 
  24.         interesting.  Your mileage may vary)
  25.     FTP -- Announcements of resources available via Internet ftp.
  26.         This usually means software packages of one sort or
  27.         another.  Papers are labelled elsewhere.
  28.     JOB -- Announcements of positions, studentships, post-doc 
  29.         opportunities.
  30.     PPR -- Announcements of papers, usually archived at an ftp site,
  31.         sometimes available via snail mail.

  33. The filename convention is to name each composite file for the date upon
  34. which I receive the information and the class into which that information
  35. falls.  For example, if I received two announcements of ANN simulators 
  36. available by ftp on April 2, 1993, those could be found in archive 
  37. 9304NNI.ZIP in file 930402.FTP.

  39. I will keep several of the latest of these compilations available for
  40. download or File Request on the Central Neural System BBS (FidoNet 
  41. 1:3407/2, 509-627-6267), in the ANNINFO file section.
