CALL FOR PAPERS AND PARTICIPATION
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EXPERT SYSTEMS FOR DEVELOPMENT
28-31 March 1994
Asian Institute of Technology
Bangkok, Thailand
In Collaboration with ACM (Thailand), JSAI, UNESCO,
IEEE and CIDA - under consideration
The Second International Conference on Expert Systems for Development will be
held in Bangkok during March 29-31, 1994.
The conference aims to:
* provide a focus on all aspects of Expert Systems Technology;
* draw together related Artificial Intelligence paradigms;
* foster interaction between researchers and practitioners;
* target both Government and private organizations;
* present a flexible program which is suitable for the researcher, the
established practitioner and the first time user.
The technical theme of this conference is the Integration of Paradigms,
arising out of the wide range of methodologies and research activities
that are current and could legitimately be associated with Artificial
Intellgence and Expert Systems. Attendees will discover a setting that is
conducive to the exchange of ideas, techniques and methods.
CALL FOR PAPERS
Original papers in all areas relating to Artificial Intelligence and Expert
Systems are solicited. Papers should describe significant results of on-going
research, industrial implementations, critical analysis of tools, techniques
and systems.
To facilitate the reviewing process, authors are requested to select
appropriate content areas from the list below. Authors are also invited to
contribute additional content area descriptors to their title page as needed.
Artificial Life,Associative Memories, Automated Reasoning, Blackboard, Belief
Revision, Case Based Reasoning, Cognitive Modeling, Communication and
Co-operation Constraint-Based Reasoning, Connectionist Models, Data Mining,
Distibuted Artificial Intelligence, Expert Diagnostic Systems, Expert Systems
in Agriculture, Expert Systems Applications, Expert Systems in Environment,
Expert Systems in Government, Expert System Methodologies, Expert Systems in
Planning, Knowledge Acquisition, Knowledge Based Decision Support Systems,
Knowledge Representation, Learning, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, Non-
monotonic Reasoning, Planning, Qualitative Reasoning, Self-Organising
Systems, Virtual Reality.
Authors may submit three copies of extended abstracts by AUGUST 15, 1993. The
abstracts should be sufficient (one page or more as necessary) detail for
review purposes. All the submitted extended abstracts would be reviewed. The
reviewers would be requested to consider the extended abstracts in the
context of originality, significance and quality. Papers should not be longer
than six pages in the conference proceedings. Additional pages would cost
US$50 each to the authors. Papers exceeding eight pages will not be included
in the proceedings. Only papers of registered participants will be included
in the proceedings.
PUBLICATION
The papers would be published by a well known publisher. The terms are under
negotiation.
COPYRIGHT
Authors will be required to transfer copyright of their paper to the
publisher.
WORKSHOPS
The conference intends to bridge the gaps between academician, the
practitioner and the planner while focussing on the technological advances
around the world. The workshops would be focussing on specific areas of
Expert Systems applications. Proposals for workshops are welcome.
PANEL DISCUSSIONS
Panels typically involve four or five speakers presenting brief position
statements followed by a moderated discussion. Innovative formats are also
encouraged. Proposals will be evaluated on the significance of the issues and
the prospect for a lively, informed discussion. Submit a proposal containing:
issues to be discussed and their importance for ICES-94, format of the
session, position statements and brief summaries of the panelists' background.
TUTORIALS
Tutorials offer opportunities for participants to develop new skills and
knowledge through extended interaction with expert instructors. Proposals
from developers, researchers and educators are invited. A tutorial may
address the needs of the participants at the following level: understanding
fundamental concepts, applications of AI and ES methodologies, and transferring
research to practice. Proposals should clearly identify the proficiencies
expected of participants as well as the knowledge they will acquire at the
session. Depending on the funding available a modest compensation would be
made for the instructors. Please make proposals. They will be evaluated on
relevance, importance, experience, qualifications of the instructor and
overall balance of the program.
PRODUCT DISPLAY
Manufacturers of hardware and software products, AI and Expert Systems
Companies, and others who have working systems could present their products
and hold demonstrations during the conference. Companies who wish to
demonstrate other information technology related products are also welcome.
Proposals containing a one page abstract, story board with selected screens
and detailed descriptions, and computer support is required.A modest fee would
be charged for these.
