=====================================================================
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PASS THIS PROGRAM ALONG EVEN IF YOU DON'T USE IT.
=====================================================================
** What program does **
This program will keep track of your golf scores and
many other players. It provides you with an up to date handi-
cap and averages in many different areas. This can easily
print out score cards for any course you have entered to play
a skins game using handicaps. It shows your best and worst
games no matter how good or bad you play. Shows your problem
holes according to yardage, and your best and worst scores on
each course (front, back, and all 18.)
Entry of data is simple and easily duplicated for the
next player when you are entering several players at one
time. Read on for details of a great Golf Score Board.
** Installing and running the program **
Create a directory on your hard drive or run from a disk
in your floppy. You can keep a lot on your floppy if you
don't have a hard drive. All files will be created for you
as they are needed in the same directory. To run the program
from the directory you have created, type SGOLF. The title
screen will appear.
** Program Information **
This shareware program is 100% present. The only
difference is the extra screens included with the shareware
release. These extra screens can become annoying. As you
well know ShareWare is USER SUPPORT. If you like using this
really nice program, I would really like your SUPPORT. Let me
know of future changes you would like to see in the future up
dates. The price of the program is $ 22.50. I don't know of
a true golfer that hasn't spent more than that on a game of
golf at one time or another. Please see order information
within the program.
** Selection of Players **
After running the program you will see the title screen.
Press any key to continue. Then you will see a screen that
looks like this:
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
Alt Information Edit Sort sAve sKins Exit Enter
Player names:
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
You may be quick to notice there are no player names on
the first run. This will be covered shortly.
Alt : This is to remind you that all the other
commands need to be executed by holding down
the 'Alt' key while pressing the highlighted or
capital letter on the menu line.
Information : This brings up a screen so you know where to
reach me.
Edit : The highlighter bar can be moved to 40
different location. The line you are currently
on can be changed by pressing 'Alt E'. This
allows you to alter the list of players you are
keeping track of. Press ENTER after making
changes or ESC to return to the same as it was.
If a space is used it will be seen on screen as
an under line '_'. This is because the names
are used as file names in your directory.
Sort : Pressing 'Alt S' will sort the player name list
in alphabetical order.
sAve : 'Alt A' will save the player name list. This
is not necessary because the program will ask
you if you want to save at the proper time.
All files will ask just in case you forget.
sKins : 'Alt K' skins will be cover latter.
Exit : Returns you DOS.
Enter : Brings up the file on the person highlighted.

The first item up on the top of the screen is the name
of the player whose file is now active. If a file has not
been created it will be done for you later.
-*- Remember to use the Alt key with your selections -*-
Esc - This will exit the score board and return to the player
selection area. If you have made any changes you will be
asked if you want to save you updated data.
Home - Moves you to the first line in the current file.
End - Moves you to the bottom of the file for new input.
Page - Page Up/Down moves to the next screen of records.
Arrows - Up and Down only - Moves up or down one record.
Scr 1 - Brings you back to screen 1 if you are on screen 2.
Scr 2 - Takes you to screen 2 (View only) all data is input
on screen 1. Screen 2 holds other results.
Selection - See notes further down **
Print - Prints out the file. You will be asked how many
records to print.
Delete - This is a special function that only works on the
top line. Press the HOME key to go to the first line.
The reason for this is that each year (or other time frame)
you will want to start a new file. The handicap is figured
* from the last ten games highlighted by the * on the left edge.
If you start a new file every January 1, you will want to
keep the current handicap active. Just delete the records
from the top until only 10 or so games are still listed.
After you are far enough into the new year, delete the
rest of the data from last year. This helps to keep the
end of year reports clean and neat.
** Screen 1 Columns **
Date - Key in anything you want.
Weather - Key in anything you want.
Place - This should not be keyed in, but selected with the
'Alt S' key combination. This will be covered shortly.
Par - This can be keyed in with any number from 51 to 99.
It will most likely have the right number in it from the
Place selection done before this point.
Rate - Another 'Alt S' function but can be keyed in.
Play - Number of holes played for the game. In case you are
rained out or lose your clubs in the lake you need to put
in the number of holes played for proper math functions
to take place. REMEMBER - 42 shots figured on 18 holes
gives you a handicap you don't want if you're playing skins.
Shot - Key in your score after the cards are totaled. There
is a better way. See 'Alt S'.
NHC - This is the one you like to see get lower, but you don't
write here. This is your -New Handicap- for the next
game. The computer will figure it for you.
Special Note -------- Move ahead another column by pressing
Enter. Move back one column by pressing Back Space. The
data entered in the column will not be changed. If you
have a color monitor you will notice the highlighted
line turn to green when you begin typing new data. This
means you are editing (much like changing player names.)
When out of the Edit mode the Return and Back Space keys
act as left and right column changers.
** Selection key **
The function of the 'Alt S' key will take on different
effects depending on what column you are in. This will
become obvious after a while.
If you are in Column :
Date - Loads up the course on the highlighted line for closer
inspection at your game statistics. You can also make
revisions to the course from the score card. Change
yards, par, handicap, or course rating.
Weather - Same as Date above.
Place - Brings up the list of courses to select the one to
use for this entry. If your course does not exist yet
one can be created here. Scroll up and down to select
the course you want to use. The course name will be
placed in the PLACE column along with par.
Par - Alt S has no function here.
Rate - Lets you select another course rating to use. This
is so you don't have to remember the different rating
for Pro, Men, Women, or whatever.
Play - Alt S has no effect.
Shot - If you want more detail on the game, Alt S will let
you key in the shots taken on each hole. This will add
your strokes for you and put them in the column. By
using this feature you will get additional history,
averages, and information. This is the recommended
method to use.
All of the Alt S functions will become more apparent after
you use them.
** Screen 2 **
Nothing is keyed in on this screen. it is for view only.

Place - Same as screen 1.
Par - Same as screen 1.
Over - Show how many strokes you were over par for the game.
If you played less than 18 holes it is still showing how
many strokes above par (averaged) if you had played them
all. If you were rained out, now you know what the out
come would have been.
Play - Same as screen 1.
Shot - Same as screen 1.
O.P.H - Over Per Hole - Shows you were over (or Under) this
many strokes per each hole.
H.C.% - This column has little meaning to most players. It
is the computed value resulting from the holes played,
course rating, par, and handicap information. It is also
used to locate the best and worst games that are marked
at print out time.
+- - Plus and Minus column shows how much you are above or
below your last figured handicap amount. If you have a
15 handicap and shot 12 over par you will have -3 for
shooting 3 under your handicap. May you have plenty of
minus signs here.
NHC - Same as screen 1.
DEBP.bdto - Each letter stands for something on each hole
as follows in order :
Double eagle - 3 under par
Eagle - 2 under par
Birdie - 1 under par
Par - par
. separator
Bogie - 1 over par
Double bogie - 2 over par
Triple bogie - 3 over par
Other - don't want to talk about it over par.
If you had 1 bird, 7 pars, 4 bogies, 5 double bogies, and
shot 12 on one hole, this would read:
DEBP.bdto
17.4501
This is only part of why you should enter the scores per
hole instead of one score for the game.
Getting a high number here to compare to your friends or
view high and low for the year might be a good way to see
who buys a round of golf. Please note this is a number
format and if you shot 10 pars this would show as 1 birdie
because 10 can not go into 1 column. This will also increase
the number for a higher score.
** Entering and changing Courses **
You can enter a new course while you are in the PLACE
column by pressing Alt S. This brings up the course
selection screen where you can add or change existing.
If the course name changes, this is the place to edit all
names. You can edit the course information any time you
have the course active.
Pressing Alt S while in the Date or Weather column you
get the following screen that can be altered.

This shows a sort of line graph of the current record now
active. All data for the course including current game are
shown. Your choices available are :
Esc - Takes you back to screen 1.
History - See below.
Rates - Alt R will let you change the course rating. Three
settings are available. If you use the same one most of
the time, set this rating in the center or number 2
position. 1, 2 and 3 can be selected from screen 1 with
Alt S, but the rating in position 2 is automatically taken
unless you select. You can also use none of them and
key in what you want while on screen 1. Some courses
don't have a course rating. That Ok! The proper math
functions will take place with a formula without a
course rating.
Yards - Alt Y - allows you to alter the yard per hole. Use
Enter and Back Space the same as you do on Screen 1
to skip over the holes that don't need adjustment.
Handi cap - Alt H - Works the same as Yards.
Par - Alt P - Works the same as Yards.
Average - We will cover this later.
** History **
This Alt H key will re-draw the bottom half of the screen.

This shows all games in the file played for the course. It
also shows high and low scores for all games and for the front
and back 9 holes. It also shows how many strokes above or
below par on the average that you are shooting. If you play
hole 4 as a par every game this average will be 0.0 because
you are not above or below par. This looks better on screen
because the color coding helps to view the numbers.

This will take all courses in the whole file and look at
the yards and shots taken to figure an average. The one for
this print out is for par 3 holes. At 140 yards this player
is playing 3.25 average strokes, only .25 too many, but
at 160 yards this player would like to make this yardage a
par 5 hole. He is 2 strokes above par for his average.
Total average for 20 par 3 holes is 4. A bogie golfer.
You can press 3, 4 or 5 to view the other averages for

** Skins **
Activate skins from the player select screen with Alt K.
This will let you select up to 5 players from the list to
be placed on a skins game card. After the selections are
made, press enter to print. Esc will not print. Before
printing begins you will be asked for a course that will
be selected the same as you select while entering data.

The top section shows the course information. The next
player sections with their names is the score area. The
fourth hole is a par 4 and the number 1 handicap hole.
(Hardest on the course.) You will notice that Player A
has a 17 handicap and Player B has a 19 handicap. If both
players shoot a 5, put 5 on the card. Under their score is
a number of -1 for player A, so write 4 for player A on skins.
Player B has -2, so write 3 for player B on skins. With
handi cap skins player B wins the hole because he get a 3
and player A only get a 4. The bottom section is to keep
track of who wins each hole.
All numbers can be double checked at the end of the game
because each row and column should be added or subtracted
properly to match the total columns at the end.
The amount on each hole is up to you before the game
starts. They can all be the same or different.
Be sure to enter the scores into the computer after the
game as usual and NOT the handicap scores.
** Important Information **
Some of the print outs are done in 96 column or 17 characters
per inch. With so many printers to code for, their may be some
that don't work with this software. You will be asked at print
time for Automatic or Manual. Answer With A or M. If Automatic
does not work on your printer, select Manual and adjust your
printer to 17 cpi. Then press any key.
If you have managed to read this far, you can see the
importance of entering all data for the course and shots
taken per hole for each player. With the group I take care
of, there is NEVER a game left out because you had a bad day
or was out of town or quit early. If we leave out one really
bad game, should we also leave out one excellent game???
Sometimes the course is under repair and tee boxes are
moved up. To keep information in perspective on a par 4
hole moved up to a par 3, one stroke is added to each player
on the score card. If not, this could lower your handicap
more than you would like if you were playing skins.
If the course is being changed around and the score cards
do not match the course, don't key in the shots taken per
hole. Key in the total only. This will prevent operations
done on per hole basis from taking place.
** Don't Miss Out **
Run the program and press Alt I for the information
screen. Print the screen with the Print Screen key on
your keyboard and send off for you latest up dated golf
score board and get rid of the screen delays. This
program is USER support. I have over 300 hours work in
this and previous models.
Thank you,
Bob Howe
