Installation:
Floppy Based Resume Shop 2.5 Systems: The program and data files
necessary to run Resume Shop 2.5 are small and should fit on one
diskette. Please make a backup copy of the Resume Shop 2.5 disk.
This way if you have a problem, you will have a back up available.
Hard Disk Resume Shop 2.5 Systems: Create a sub directory off the
root called "OPR" with the make directory (MD) DOS command.
C:> MD OPR <enter>
Then change the current directory(CD) to "OPR" and use the copy
command from the a: to c: drive.
C:> CD OPR <enter>
C:> COPY A:*.* C: <enter>
Hard disk users may want to create a batch file to take them
automatically to the "OPR" sub directory and execute the
"OPR.EXE" program file.
Refer to DOS Manual for additional information on DOS Commands.
CONFIG.SYS:
Resume Shop 2.5 requires the following entries:
FILES = 20
BUFFERS = 15
Refer to your DOS Manual for questions on CONFIG.SYS
There may be a need for additional tinkering with your DOS
environment based on the equipment and software installed. You
should consult with your system manuals for more information.
The Design:
Resume Shop 2.5 is written to be used much like a menu you would see
in a restaurant when ordering dinner. Instead of telling the
waitress your order, you move the light bar to the selection
you would like to execute. For example, if you want to add
or change information regarding your educational background, you
use the arrow keys to move the light bar and hit enter when you are
on the education selection.
gSOFT built Resume Shop 2.5 with the novice user in mind. It is our
goal to have the computer do as much of the work as it can. We
have kept the rules limited and the flow is consistent with how you
would construct a resume without a computer. Resume Shop 2.5 has a
WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) field editor so type just
as you would want to see the text on your resume. There is nothing
you can do with this product which can hurt your computer so feel free
to experiment with the software. Any restrictions or warnings are
identified below.
The Don'ts:
o Don't delete any files shipped with the program disk. A list of
these files is available at the end of this document.
o Don't try to type outside any of the highlighted areas reserved
for input. Resume Shop 2.5 is set up to read only what is inside the
highlighted entry area. (it shouldn't let you anyway!!)
The Do's:
o Make a copy of the program disk before you start the product.
This way if you erase a file by mistake you still have our
original program intact.
o Do experiment and let us know if there is anything additional
you would like to see or something you would like changed.
o Do make multiple resumes tailored to fit the requirements of the
job you are interested in.
o If you have any problems or suggestions, please let gSOFT know
and we will be glad to make the changes available to register
users.
About Resumes:
Resumes are the first impression you will be giving a
potential employer. You must be informative and concise
(this is why Resume Shop 2.5 creates a one page resume).
Identify the points in your background and experience that
are relevant to the position you're applying for. Learn a
little about the company and their products and services.
Don't be afraid to have several resumes for different types
of jobs with different employers. You should target you
resume to the firm your interested in. Be modest don't
oversell your accomplishments or come off as a bragger.
Identify the successes. Make sure your sentences are to the
point and watch grammar and spelling. Have someone else read
your resume and give you feedback on the format and clarity.
A cover letter should also be supplied to provide a personal
introduction to the employer. A sample cover letter
is provided on the Resume Shop 2.5 disk called COVER.LET.
Read the Resume Hints guide found on the tools menu for more
information on creating a successful resume.
Starting out:
First Time Users:
If it is your first time using Resume Shop 2.5, it is a good idea
to page through this On-Line Manual. When you have familiarized
yourself with its conventions and general operation, start
with "Work on Resume" from the the main menu and move around to
other menu selections to see what they do. Do not be alarmed to
see data already keyed into the data entry areas. This was put
there to give you an idea of what should be inputted into the entry.
Just type over the entry or space out what you want deleted. Omit
any menu selections or screens which do not apply. Resume Shop 2.5
will work around the omissions and format your final resume accordingly.
For experienced users go ahead and treat this menu driven
program like other menu driven systems. There is
nothing mysterious or technical about using Resume Shop 2.5.
To begin Type: C > OPR [resume_filename]
resume_filename = the name of the resume file you wish to
load. This is optional. The default resume is called
RESUME.
Navigating through Resume Shop 2.5 Menus:

an option, use the cursor keys to put the light bar over the
desired option and hit enter. Resume Shop 2.5 provides ample
HELP screens to guide you through the product.

Special Features / Enhancements:
On-Line Manual
This new feature allows you to page though this document while inside
your resume session. You may take the HELP option from the Main Menu
and then the On-Line Manual option to view the manual. The page up and
page down keys allow you to browse back and forth through the document.
F10 ends the On-Line Manual session and takes you back to the HELP
MENU screen. A helpmsg box is provided in the bottom left corner or
the On-Line Manual display to help identify the correct key options
for browsing the On-Line Manual. F8 prints a hardcopy manual.
Customizer (for Resumes and Cover Letters)
This added feature allows you modify your resume beyond what the resume
has formated for you automatically. For example, your position on your
last job may had a title with more letters than allowed in the Work
Experience Entry Screen. With Customizer you can type over the top
of the formated resume and make any changes you wish. WARNING! Any
changes made with Customizer stay on the Customer file only (ASC.OUT)
and will not appear with View Resume or any of the resume information
entry screens. F8 sends the customized file to the printer. An
option has been added to Customize cover letters also. It works the
same as the Customizer works on resumes.
To invoke the Customizer, select Customizer from the Main Menu and
select Customizer from the Customizer screen. Type part of the
resume (changes appear in red). When complete hit F10 to exit and
save the changes or F9 to exit without saving or F8 to print.
A helpmsg box is provided in the bottom left corner of the Customizer
help identify the correct key options for browsing the resume.
View Resume
This enhancement allows you to page though your resume while inside
your resume session. You may take the View Resume option from the Main
Menu or the View Resume option from the Work on Resume Menu.
The page up and page down keys allow you to browse back and forth
through the current resume. F10 ends the View Resume session and takes
you back to the Menu you issued View Resume from. A helpmsg box is
provided in the bottom left corner or the View Resume display to help
identify the correct key options for browsing the resume.
