Beta Driver for Mitsumi LU005S
This install program is designed to be on a diskette drive in the
"\"-directory. Have at least the file OS2DRVR on a diskette.
If your OS/2 is not installed completely, it is possible that several
drivers needed for CDROM support are missing on your hard disk
drive. The installation program then asks you to insert the disks
containing these files.
This install program works only with OS/2 2.0. Because the CDROM
support has completely changed in OS/2 2.1 other files have to be
installed from other diskettes. For this reason the program has to be
changed. We don't know whether the drivers run with final OS/2 2.1 at
all. We tested the drivers with OS/2 2.1 beta 6.479 on CD. See later
section for use with OS/2 2.1 beta 6.479.
If your CDROM install diskette is another format as your OS/2 install
disks, install the CDROM drivers for LU005S first, then abort when an
OS/2 diskette is requested and select "Install/Driver" again from the
menu and choose the other drive in the "Options" dialog.
Don't forget to change the CONFIG.SYS no matter whether by
"Install/Config" or manually.
Installation with already installed OS/2 2.1 Beta
First open an OS/2 prompt (window or full screen) and change to the
directory x:\OS2 (where x: is the drive OS2 is installed on). Insert
the driver diskette in A: and type "UNPACK A:\OS2DRVR".
Open the "SETUP" folder within the "OS/2 SYSTEM" folder and start
"Selective Install". Activate "CDROM-Support" and select the drive
type "OTHER" from the drives menu. After installation of the CDROM
support for OS/2 start the system editor and add the following line
at the end of "x:\CONFIG.SYS"
basedev = LU005S.ADD /P:nnn
where nnn is the port address (300, 310, 330, 340 or any other)
selected on the 16bit adapter card. Do *NEVER* supply a path to
basedev lines !!
Insert a Data CD in your drive, shutdown and reboot.
Installation of OS/2 2.1 Beta 6.479 from CD
Read the installation instruction in the small booklet coming with
the CD carefully. Create the installation diskettes from an OS/2
or DOS command prompt as described in the booklet. Now follow the
instructions describing how to install os/2 2.1 beta on non-supported
SCSI Adapters:
Copy the driver LU005S.ADD from your \OS2 directory to the disk 1
into the \ directory. Append the line in your CONFIG.SYS dealing with
the LU005S.ADD to the end of CONFIG.SYS on disk 1. This line may look
like
basedev = LU005S.ADD /P:nnn
where nnn is the port address (300, 310, 330, 340 or any other)
selected on the 16bit adapter card. Do *NEVER* supply a path to
basedev lines !!
After installation of OS/2 2.1 beta 6.479 on your hard disk copy the
LU005S.ADD to the \OS2 directory of your hard disk and append the
"basedev" line at the end of CONFIG.SYS of your hard disk too.
If you use OS/2 2.0 and the LU005S driver not yet installed, install
the driver first. If you have only DOS installed, insert the driver
diskette in your diskette drive, the OS/2 2.1 beta CD in the CD drive
and change to an empty directory on your hard disk. Now enter:
E:\OS2SE21\DISK_2\UNPACK A:\OS2DRVR
(assumed your CD is E: and the driver diskette is in A:). The LU005S
device driver and PLAY.EXE are then unpacked to your current
directory. Proceed then as described above and don't forget to append
the correct "basedev" statement to the CONFIG.SYS.
The above mentioned OS/2 2.1 beta CD is sent to selected beta testers
by IBM (eg. to DAP members). Do not ask us for this CD.
BUGS AND PROBLEMS
This driver is in a beta state. It hasn't been tested for a longer
time. Please report any problems you find to me.
Please note that neither THIS driver nor the final "JUNE" release
will support MMPM or the CD player contained in OS/2 Multimedia kit.
A later release will support Multimedia. We will provide an upgrade
path for owners of the "JUNE" release.
This driver is a polling driver as MTMCDS.SYS is for DOS. This
leads to bad performance and strange behaviour in a multitasking
environment. The final package will also contain an interrupt driven
device driver.
There are a lot of OS/2 2.0 WPS problems left in GA (empty unnamed
folders after CD change, lines without folders at the end, missing
"+" signs, CD drive shown as a diskette drive after bootup without CD
inserted). We could produce this problems also with SCSI drives made
by IBM. Not CUA-like implementations (MOVE from CDROM to disk is
possible, though there is nothing deleted on the CDROM) are also done
in the WPS not in the driver (Driver reports ERROR on write access).
MARKETING
This driver is working only up to June, 15th 1993. The final release
is planned for June, 7th
Final releases of this driver could be bought from the following
