Program Description:
This is an OS/2 2.x port of the GNU Ghostscript 2.5.2 with a Presentation
Manager driver (Version 2.5a by Jim Yang). Ghostscript is a PostScript
interpreter/viewer. This version is compiled with Borland C++ 1.0 for OS/2,
and does not require any additional dynamic link library (DLL).
The author of Ghostscript, L. Peter Deutsch (ghost@aladdin.com) has agreed
to incorporate an OS/2 version into the standard distribution for Ghostscript
2.6, if the OS/2 community can agree on ONE port. Several people, including
myself, are involved in discussions of what features to put into this port.
If you have experience in porting GS and would like to help, send me email.
This version has the following capabilities:
1. Two drawing modes. The first mode is the same as the mode
from gspm24, where there are no scroll bars in the drawing
window. This is similar to the X11 driver for UNIX.
The second drawing mode uses scroll bars in the drawing
window, so it is possible to preview documents larger than
the size of the screen; however, in this mode the image does
not appear in the window until it is finished (the showpage
command is issued).
2. Three color modes: 256 color mode, 16 gray scale mode, and
4 gray scale mode. If you are running a 16 color display driver
you can only use the 4 gray scale mode. You can use the 16 gray
scale mode if you are using a 256 color display driver. To use
the 256 color mode, your display driver must support palette
management.
3. Is compiled with the following drivers:
os2pm bj200 epson eps9high bj10e dfaxhigh dfaxlow deskjet
djet500 laserjet ljetplus ljet2p ljet3 cdeskjet cdjcolor
cdjmono paintjet pjetxl pbm pbmraw pgm pgmraw ppm ppmraw
gifmono gif8 pcxmono pcx16 pcx256 bit
(Note that I have not tested any driver other than os2pm, bj10e,
gifmono, and gif8.)
By the way, you can obtain fonts and source codes for Ghostscript from ftp
sites such as ftp.cs.wisc.edu:/pub/X/ghostscript* and labrea.stanford.edu.
To learn how to use the various features of the PM driver, read gspm25.doc.
