To Update from Version 1.00 to Version 1.01
___________________________________________
1) Create a directory on your disk.
For example: MD C:\DESKMAN2
2) Copy all the files from your diskette into this new directory.
For example: Copy A:\*.* C:\DESKMAN2\*.* /V
3) Place the archive, DM2101.ZIP, into the new directory.
For example: Download DM2101.ZIP into C:\DESKMAN2
4) Unzip all files in the archive.
For example: PKUNZIP DM2101.ZIP
5) Apply the update.
For example: UPDATE
6) Your new directory now contains your updated DeskMan/2 files. Please
back them up and reinstall DeskMan/2.
NOTE: If you are using OS/2 2.1 GA, please make sure that you have applied
all available OS/2 patches and fixes before installing DeskMan/2. This
specifically includes the fixes contained within 21WPSF.ZIP found on
CompuServe, OS2BBS, and elsewhere.
7) After installing the new version of DeskMan/2, please check the
settings notebook to verify that your settings are set as desired. We
recommend that all REXX generation be turned off unless required, and that
both icon and data-file saves be enabled. We STRONGLY recommend that you
set aside one or more directories for use solely by DeskMan/2's save and
restore features. Close the settings notebook.
IMPORTANT! File references have been changed from version 1.00 to version
1.01, so please follow the next steps carefully:
8) Change your directory to the directory that contains your saved object
description file(s). For example: CD \DESKMAN
9) Verify that you have only DeskMan/2's .DRC saved object description
files and other internal files in your directory. To do this, you can
compare the files you see on a directory listing with the files referenced
by the pathnames in the DeskMan/2 notebook settings. If you see only
DESKMAN.DRC, or that plus any of the following: DESKMAN.IRC, DESKMAN.CMD,
DESKMANI.CMD, or DESKMAN.LOG files; along with a bunch of files that look
like the names of objects which you see in your Templates folder, you're
fine. Go to step 10. If you do not see this, open your DRIVES folder,
open the drives object that contains the directory where you have your
saved object description files, and examine that directory through the
graphical interface. If you see the files mentioned above, then continue
with step 10, otherwise skip to step 11.
10) To make sure that you start out with a clean system, we're going to
delete your .DRC, .CMD, and data-file files from this directory. Be sure
to delete these files only if you are not using this directory for any
other purpose than storing DeskMan/2's various storage files. If you are
storing your icons in this directory, go ahead and delete them if you wish.
If you are storing your icons in a subdirectory, go ahead and delete them
from that subdirectory too, if you want to remove the saved icon files.
Note that this has no effect upon existing objects' icons, only upon saved
icons and icons not in use that are saved in the same directory. Please
note that using the CLEANUP.CMD file to remove non-referenced data-files
and icons can also remove icons stored with DeskMan/2's saved icons in
order to merge icon libraries. If you have merged icon libraries, it is
suggested that you back them up before using CLEANUP.CMD.
11) Save your desktop, automatically recreating your saved object files and
placing copies of your icons and data-file objects in their directories.
12) Congratulations, you're now using an updated version of DeskMan/2!

What's Changed from Version 1.00 to Version 1.01
________________________________________________
Changed: Drag & Drop restore no longer leaves DESKMAN.### temporary file.
Changed: Opening DeskMan/2 no longer brings up an empty restore container
window if the help file is not available.
Changed: Does not trap when saving on systems with Screen Reader installed.
Changed: Install window properly minimizing upon request.
Changed: CLEANUP.CMD removes saved data files.
Changed: INSTALL.EXE now defaults to setting icon files to ..\ICO.
Changed: INSTALL.EXE now defaults to setting data-files to ..\DATA.
Changed: ICONFILE only used if the icon changes in .INI files.
Changed: Open Settings on Drop special function now functional.
Changed: Recreates original objects before shadows of them, where possible.
Changed: Removed .ICO file left after Query object settings on drop.
Changed: REXX generation switched off by default during processing.
Changed: DeskMan/2 icon can now be replaced either by changing DESKMAN2.ICO
before a reinstallation or through the regular settings operations. Of
course, it can also be done through DeskMan/2's Assign icon on drop special
function.
Changed: Data-files settings added to the third page of the notebook
settings for use with DeskMan/2. Note that when propagating a system from
one desktop to another, any data-file objects referred to in the .DRC must
be copied onto the other machine before the objects can be attempted in a
restoration. If these objects' names change during transit, such as from
an HPFS to a FAT to an HPFS file system, you must NOT USE COPY or XCOPY!
Use the Drag & Drop routines from the Drives folder, because otherwise the
information on the long file names will not be retained.
Changed: The drive mapping capability now includes the ability to map both
icons and data-files when mapping from one drive onto another. Both are
off by default.
Changed: The directory file path for the saved Data-file objects has now
beed added to the installation program. It has a default of ..\DATA.
Changed: The remote install program and sample configuration file have both
been updated to incorporate the above changes to the installation.
Changed: REXX code to recreate DeskMan/2 itself is now functioning.
Changed: "Device not ready" problems resolved with removable media.
Changed: Memory is now properly handled, and proper deallocation occurs
when processing Shadows' icons, no longer causing an out of Memory error.
Changed: Current release/version changed to 1.01
Changed: DeskMan/2 should now be NLS enabled (resources, messages) except
for any debug messages.
Changed: Stack size changed for processing threads to avoid 64k multiples
due to a KERNEL bug.
Changed: Fixed difficulty with query settings trap due to stack issues.
Changed: Saves data files, setting added to the 3rd Save settings page.
Save data files is set to YES by default.
Changed: date/time format in the restore window changed to reflect the
current country setting. Note: for INI.RC file the date will show 0-0-0 and
time 12:00:00 AM.
Changed: Excessive strings no longer generated by Generate REXX in restore
cointainer.
Changed: The Find function now scrolls to the first object found.
Changed: Displays a blank instead of multiple zeroes for any date or time
that does not exist.
Changed: Data files directory on INSTALL will default to the same parent
directory as ICO, i.e. if ICO is: x:\DESKMAN\ICO, DATA will be assumed as
x:\DESKMAN\DATA, if not found to be otherwise in the INI file.
Changed: Change Loc push button changed to Set Path button.
Changed: Does not reset the file names when user selects Set Path on INSTALL.
Changed: Does not dismiss INSTALL dialog if the directory selected does not
exist, and user does not want to create a new directory.
Changed: Completed final stack adjustments. Corrected the Trap in the
Generate REXX function from the DeskMan/2 window.
