  24.          Nonlin  performs  statistical  regression analysis to estimate the
  25.          values of parameters for  linear,  multivariate,  polynomial,  and
  26.          general  nonlinear  functions.  The regression analysis determines
  27.          the values of the parameters which cause the function to best  fit
  28.          the  observed  data that you provide.  You specify the form of the
  29.          function whose  parameters  are  being  estimated  using  ordinary
  30.          algebraic  notation.   In  addition  to  determining the parameter
  31.          estimates, Nonlin can be directed to generate an output file  with
  32.          predicted  values  and  residuals.   It  can  also  plot  the data
  33.          observations and the computed  function.   Although  designed  for
  34.          regression  analysis,  Nonlin  can  also  be used to find the root
  35.          (zero point) or minimum absolute value of a nonlinear  expression.
  36.          Nonlin  is  in use at many engineering and research centers around
  37.          the world.

  46.            . A  library  of  built-in  function  is  included  for  use  in
  47.              specifying  the  equation.   The  built-in  functions  include
  48.              trig,  exponential,  log, Bessel, elliptic integrals, and many
  49.              others.

  51.            . Nonlin handles multivariate  functions;  up  to  12  parameter
  52.              values may be estimated.

  54.            . A  "SWEEP"  command  allows you to specify a range of starting
  55.              values  in  case  the  function  has  both  local  and  global

  58.            . Student's   `t'   statistic   and  associated  probability  is
  59.              computed for each estimated parameter  providing  an  estimate
  60.              of the significance of the value.

  65.              multiple determination, and Durbin-Watson.

  74.              minimization  algorithm  that  is as good, or better, than you
  75.              are likely to  find  in  even  the  most  expensive  nonlinear

  80.          Nonlin  will  run  on  any IBM PC compatible computer under MS-DOS
  81.          version 3.0  or  higher.   A  minimum  of  500K  of  free  RAM  is
  82.          necessary (less if LaserJet plotting is not performed).

  84.          The  program  does  not need a numeric coprocessor but will use it
  85.          if available.  A  coprocessor  is  highly  recommended  for  large
  86.          analyses.
