  4.
  5.                    His heart broken, the adept stumbled,
  6.                    Nearly fell, as the seagull flew away,
  7.                    He called out after her, searching,
  8.                    Crying, as his spells failed him.
  9.
  10.                    He paused in his angst, remembering of
  11.                    Sweeter times, pressed against his soul;
  12.
  13.                    Gliding the winds, her wings beat fast,
  14.                    She came to him, as he brewed his spells,
  15.                    They shared joy, she taught him to fly,
  16.                    He taught her a little magic.
  17.
  18.                    They shared wonders anew, as well as
  19.                    Ancient riddles and wanderings,
  20.                    Companions in friendship,
  21.                    Sharing magical bonds.
  22.
  23.                    One day, incantations went awry,
  24.                    Cast 'pon them both, revealing,
  25.                    Their innermost secrets to each other,
  26.                    He saw what he knew, and she saw love.
  27.
  28.                    In a fleeting moment, they shared the sight,
  29.                    What they dared not voice; spoken,
  30.                    What they dared not feel; embraced,
  31.                    In that moment, she flew away.
  32.
  33.                    Why 'o why must it be this way, he raged,
  34.                    Anger's lightning blazing thunderstrokes;
  35.
  36.                    Night and day he toiled, new enchantments,
  37.                    Crystal balls gazed, for a lone seagull,
  38.                    He sought out great wizards and magicians,
  39.                    And not one could help him on his quest.
  40.
  41.                    Creating potions, scrying mirrors,
  42.                    Gazing to the stars, looking for answers,
  43.                    He cursed her, then himself, the world,
  44.                    His spells, for failing him.
  45.
  46.                    For days and nights, he did not rest,
  47.                    His seagull gone, perhaps lost forever,
  48.                    Why had his spells been so careless,
  49.                    Why did he scare her so?
  50.
  51.                    He wept, anger turning to sadness,
  52.                    Might-have-been's to never-coulds.
  53.                    He missed the beat of her wings,
  54.                    and the beat of her heart.
  55.
  56.                    The Adept folded into himself,
  57.                    Sleep calling to his weary mind;
  58.
  59.                    Images swam 'round him, calling his name,
  60.                    As the mist encircled his psyche,
  61.                    Pulling at him with questions,
  62.                    And he knew why she'd left.
  63.
  64.                    Fear beneath her wings, revealed,
  65.                    Desire's blood, and gentle whispers,
  66.                    Of love, and hope, and a yearning,
  67.                    For what she thought could never be.
  68.
  69.                    She was afraid, not of her secrets,
  70.                    But of his, now that she knew them,
  71.                    She yearned stronger, and feared,
  72.                    Never knowing his kiss.
  73.
  74.                    The answer came to him in a dream,
  75.                    A woman taken form from his seagull,
  76.                    Kissing sweet promises, whispering,
  77.                    I'll come back, as she drifted away.
  78.
  79.                    In that instant, he let her go,
  80.                    Smiling, remembering, hoping;
  81.
  82.                    The next morning the sun spoke to him,
  83.                    Calling him to the window, promising warmth,
  84.                    The shutters fell open, the wind blew in,
  85.                    And she flew in after, a promise kept.
