  2.                           Introduction
  3.  
  4. The NoteIt program helps you maintain a list of notes.  This can
  5. be extremely helpful if you are one of these people who
  6. constantly has things on their mind and has a difficult time
  7. remembering what you did last week (much less several months
  8. ago).  NoteIt provides a simple user interface for you to enter
  9. one note after another.  All notes are stored in the same ASCII
  10. file which makes searching for a specific entry easy.
  11.  
  12. In addition, each note is automatically date and time stamped (to
  13. the second) and is always stored in the ASCII text file in the
  14. order you entered the note.  The format of the ASCII file is
  15. "ASCII Quote and Comma Delimited".  This makes it easy to pull
  16. the information into a database package if you so desire.  The
  17. file is always stored in the same directory as the NOTEIT.EXE
  18. file and is named NOTEIT.LOG.

  20. The program also has a "Review" button which simply starts the
  21. Windows notepad and automatically displays all your notes for
  22. your review.  You can use the search feature of the notepad to
  23. search for any item in a note (or date/time stamp).  You can also
  24. use the word wrap feature to make it easier to read your notes. 
  25. Note: If editing your notes remember to save the file in NON word
  26. wrapped form.

  28. Thank you for using NoteIt.  Please don't forget to register the
  29. program if you use it past the 15 day evaluation period.

  31.                           Registration
  32. If informational reminder screens appear when you start or exit
  33. the program you are using an unregistered version of the product.
  34. You have a 15 day evaluation period in which to try out the
  35. package.  If you use it longer than 15 days you must
  36. license/register it.  The reminder screens will not appear once
  37. you have registered the software.

  39. To register simply follow the instructions below:
  40.  
  41.    1.Install the software per the instructions that follow.
  42.    2.Run the software.  You are prompted for some information
  43.      (company name, your name, day phone number, and CIS ID
  44.      (optional).
  45.    3.When the opening window displays, click once on the "Note"
  46.      icon.  This displays the about window.
  47.    4.Write down on your check or money order your registration
  48.      number as is appears on the About window.  Make sure it is
  49.      accurate.  Your Activation Key is based on this number.
  50.    5.If you are a member of CompuServe also write your CompuServe
  51.      ID (NOT password) on the payment.  The activation key will
  52.      be sent to you via CompuServe eMail.  If you are not a
  53.      member of CompuServe your activation key will be mailed to
  54.      you.
  55.    6.Mail your check for the license fee listed above to the
  56.      address below.  Make the check payable to Charles Cranford.
  57.    7.When you receive your activation key, start the software and
  58.      again click on the "Note" icon.  The about window displays.
  59.    8.Click on the Register button.  A window appears with your
  60.      registration information and you are prompted for your
  61.      activation key.
  62.    9.Enter the key in the box, double check it, and click on OK. 
  63.      If the key is correct the system will be registered.  The
  64.      program will exit.  Simply restart the program to continue
  65.      using it.  The reminder screens will never appear again.
  66. The registration information is stored in a file with the .REG
  67. extention.  Do not delete this file (as you must again register
  68. the software).  Future updates will not affect this file so you
  69. may install them without worrying about your registration.

  82.                     Hardware/Software Tested
  83. The program has been tested and operated normally in the
  84. following environment::
  85.      386/486 PC
  86.      Windows 3.0 and 3.1 in   Enhanced Mode (should also work in
  87. Standard Mode)
  88.      8, or 16MB of total memory (should also work in as little as
  89. 2MB)
  90.      DOS 5.0
  91.      VGA (256 colors) and VGA (32,000 colors) (Should also work
  92. in VGA 16 Color)
  93.      Serial and Bus Mouse (a mouse is recommended but not
  94. required)
  95.  
  96. NoteIt should operate normally in any Windows 3.1 environment as
  97. long as Windows is operating in Standard or Enhanced mode. 
  98. Enhanced mode and VGA (or better) recommended.  Your hardware
  99. must of course be 100% windows compatible.

  101. If the diskette or self extracting EXE file did not contain
  102. VBRUN300.DLL you should download it from a BBS or from
  103. CompuServe.  This file can always be found on CompuServe in the
  104. Microsoft Visual Basic forum.  GO MSBASI.
  105.                       Initial Installation
  106.  
  107. The program is provided as a self-extracting executable file. 
  108. Just follow the instructions below to install the program on your
  109. hard drive.
  110.  
  111.    1.Choose a drive/volume and directory on which you want to
  112.      install the product.  If the directory does not exist you
  113.      must create it now.
  114.    2.Copy the NoteIt self extracting executable (NOTE.EXE) into
  115.      the directory.
  116.    3.Make a backup of this file to floppy diskette for safe
  117.      keeping.  You will delete this file later.
  118.    4.Change to the directory.
  119.    5.Type the command NOTE.  This uncompresses the files into the
  120.      current directory.
  121.    6.Delete the file NOTE.EXE.  It is no longer used.  Make sure
  122.      you make a backup per step 5 above.
  123.    7.Create a Program Manager icon for the program and link it to
  124.      the EXE file NOTEIT.EXE.
  125.    8.Installation is complete.  You may now double click on the
  126.      icon to start the program.

  129. Software License Agreement
  130.  
  131. NoteIt is not and never has been public domain software, nor is
  132. it free software.  You are, however, granted 15 day evaluation
  133. period to try out the system.

  135. The software product and user's manual are copyrighted and all
  136. rights are reserved by TARDIS DP Consultants and Charles L.
  137. Cranford IV.
  138.  
  139. Evaluation users are granted a limited license to use NoteIt for
  140. no more than 15 days for the purpose of determining whether
  141. NoteIt is suitable for their needs. The use of NoteIt for more
  142. than 15 days  requires licensing and the payment of a license
  143. fee. The use of the product for more than 15 days by any person,
  144. business, corporation, government agency, or any other entity
  145. without licensing it from TARDIS DP Consultants is strictly
  146. prohibited.
  147.  
  148. A license permits a user to use NoteIt on any single computer,
  149. or, in a LAN environment, on one workstation.  The software may
  150. not be installed on more than one workstation or single user
  151. computer without additional licenses.
  152.  
  153. No one may modify or patch the NoteIt files in any way, including
  154. but not limited to decompiling, disassembling, or otherwise
  155. reverse engineering the program.
  156.  
  157. A limited license is granted to copy and distribute NoteIt for
  158. the trial use of others, subject to the above limitations, and to
  159. those below:
  160.  
  161.      (1) NoteIt must be copied in unmodified form, complete with
  162.      the file containing this license information and all
  163.      documentation.
  164.      
  165.      (2) NoteIt may not be distributed in licensed form to any
  166.      person.  It MUST be distributed as an unlicensed copy.
  167.      
  168.      (3) No fee, charge, or other compensation may be requested
  169.      or accepted for distributing NoteIt, except as follows:
  170.      
  171.       (a) operators of electronic bulletin board systems may
  172.       make NoteIt available for downloading. A time-dependent
  173.       charge for the use of the bulletin board is permitted so
  174.       long as there is no specific charge for the download of
  175.       any NoteIt files.
  176.       
  177.       (b) vendors of Shareware may distribute NoteIt, subject to
  178.       the above conditions, and may charge a disk duplication
  179.       and handling fee, not to exceed ten dollars.
  180.  
  181. Limited Warranty
  182.  
  183. TARDIS DP Consultants guarantees your satisfaction with this
  184. product for a period of thirty days from the date of original
  185. license. If you are dissatisfied with NoteIt within that time
  186. period, return the package in salable condition to TARDIS DP
  187. Consultants for a full refund. 
  188.  
  189. TARDIS DP Consultants warrants that all disks provided are free
  190. from defects in material and workmanship, assuming normal use,
  191. for a period of thirty days from the date of purchase.
  192.  
  193. TARDIS DP Consultants warrants that NoteIt will perform in
  194. substantial compliance with the documentation supplied with the
  195. software product. If a significant defect in the product is
  196. found, the Purchaser may return the product for a refund. In no
  197. event will such a refund exceed the license price of the product.
  198.  
  199. The product and all updates are provided on an "as is" basis
  200. without warranty of any kind, express or implied, except as
  201. stated above including, but not limited to the implied warranties
  202. of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. The
  203. entire risk as to the selection, quality, results, and
  204. performance of the product is with the Licensee. Should the
  205. product prove defective, then the Licensee (and not TARDIS DP
  206. Consultants or its dealers) assumes all liability and expense
  207. incurred as a result thereof. Some jurisdictions do not allow the
  208. exclusion of certain implied warranties so in such jurisdictions,
  209. the above exclusion of implied warranties may not apply to you.
  210. The limited warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may
  211. also have other rights which vary from jurisdiction to
  212. jurisdiction.

  214. TARDIS DP Consultants shall have no liability or responsibility
  215. to you or to any other person or entity with respect to any
  216. liability, loss or damage caused or alleged to be caused directly
  217. or indirectly by the product or your use, misuse or inability to
  218. use the product, including but not limited to, any interruption
  219. of service, loss of business, anticipatory or actual profits or
  220. consequential damages resulting from the use, misuse or inability
  221. to use the product.

  223. TARDIS DP Consultants does not warrant that the functions
  224. contained in the product or updates will meet your requirements.
  225.  
  226. Use of this product for any period of time constitutes your
  227. acceptance of this agreement and subjects you to its contents.
