SendTo, Version 1.01b
Lantastic (R) Message Program
Copyright 1993

Overview
SendTo is a small memory-resident program which permits users on
a Lantastic network to send quick one-line messages to each
other, and to reply to these messages.
SendTo is SHAREWARE, it is NOT FREE. You may use this program
only for evaluation purposes, to determine if SendTo meets your
needs. If you wish to continue using SendTo after a one-week
evaluation period, the cost of the program is $50.00 per
Lantastic network. The program may not be used without payment
of this licensing fee. Please send all payments to the address
listed at the end of this documentation.
SendTo was originally developed for a small business client and
its Lantastic network. Their sales people are always on the
telephone and were often trying to field several telephone calls
at once. They wanted a way to learn about incoming calls without
putting their current call on hold, and SendTo was born.
SendTo is not intended to be an E-Mail system, and no messages
are saved to disk. Also, SendTo is not intended to be a "chat"
type program. Although SendTo permits you to respond to a
message, no connection between the workstations is established,
and the messages can only be one line long.
Sending Messages
Once the program is loaded into memory, pressing [Ctrl-LeftShift-
M] will display the Message Input Screen. The first field is the
machine name of the user to whom you want the message sent, up to
15 characters long. This field will always be forced to upper
case. After typing the machine name of the message's recipient,
press [Enter].
The second field is the 70 character message field, which will
also be forced to upper case. After typing the message, press
[Enter] to send the message. To abort and not send a message,
press [Esc] at any time during the Message Input Screen.
The recipient's name is the Lantastic machine name used when
loading the Lantastic REDIR program. It is not the user's login
name used by the NET LOGIN command. No error checking is
performed, and if the machine name cannot be found, no warning is
given.
Receiving Messages
When a message is received by SendTo, the machine name of the
sender and the message is displayed on the screen, and SendTo
will start beeping. If nothing is done, the message will
disappear after approximately 45 seconds, and cannot be retrieved
again.
While a received message is being displayed, you may take several
different actions. Pressing [Esc] makes the message disappear
without any response to the sender. Pressing [F1] sends a
message back to the sender which says "OK, I'LL TAKE CARE OF IT",
and pressing [F2] sends a message back saying "I'M BUSY RIGHT
NOW". These are two common responses which will be sufficient in
many instances.
Pressing [F3] permits you to respond by sending back your own
message. The Message Input Screen is displayed and you can enter
the message to be sent back. This message will automatically be
sent to the machine name that sent you the first message. Two
people can use the [F3] key to "chat" on a limited basis by
sending messages back and forth.
If the workstation's display is in graphics mode when a message
is received, the worksation will beep but will not display any
message. SendTo will then send back the message "MY COMPUTER
CAN'T TAKE MESSAGES NOW - PLEASE CALL ME".
Command Line Parameters
The operation of SendTo can be altered by using the following
command line parameters, in any order.
"BW" forces the pop-up screens to display in Black and White
rather than the default blue colors used when a non-monochrome
screen is detected.
"T=?" sets a time interval for the beeps and waiting period. The
default T value is 20, and should be acceptable for a 16MHz 386SX
computer. You can change this value to make the beeps more
pleasant and to alter the length of time an incoming message will
be displayed without intervention.
"HK=?" specifies the hot-key which will active the Message Input
Screen. You can choose any letter key as the hot key to be used
with the [Ctrl-LeftShift] combination. You cannot alter the
[Ctrl-LeftShift] requirement.
Example:
sendto hk=s bw Forces black and white and uses [Ctrl-
LeftShift-S] as the hot key.
sendto t=80 Set the time interval for a faster 486SX
machine.
"Q" removes SendTo from memory, if possible. This parameter
should be used alone. If this parameter is used when SendTo is
not in memory, SendTo will not load and will display a flashing
warning on the screen.
Technical Specifications
SendTo uses approximately 6.5K of RAM, and can be loaded into
high memory. DOS 3.0 or later is required, and Lantastic 4.2 or
greater is also required.
SendTo uses the Lantastic "Send Unsolicited Message" function
when sending its messages. If the machine name is entered
incorrectly, or if the machine is not on-line, no error is
displayed to the sender.
Version History
1.00 Original Program
1.01b Fixed the Lantastic Version 5.0 incompatibility where
SendTo would pop up whenever a remote print job was
sent.
Added the automatic response sent when the receiving
workstation is in graphics mode.
