IBM Token Ring Network N Y N
Busmaster/A Server
Adapter (Withdrawn 3/2/93)
Feature Code - 4041
Please review the following material for explanations on how to acquire
the correct driver/s for your individual hardware and software
environments.
LNM SUPPORT
'LNM Support' refers to the ability of LAN Network Manager to run
'through' a token-ring adapter installed in a machine in which
LAN Network Manager is resident. Busmaster adapters have had problems
supporting LNM in this manner because the Busmasters' NDIS Mac drivers
did not update the 'Adapter Status Parameter Table' correctly.
Environment: OS/2 only
To enable 'LNM Support' on a particular Busmaster adapter please
read and perform the actions specified in the following 'bullets'.
* LANStreamer MC 32 - No fix required. The OS/2 NDIS Mac driver
shipped with the card will support the LNM application.
* 16/4 Adapter II - A new OS/2 NDIS Mac driver, IBM16TR.OS2 v.2.00.05,
will be included on the new Diagnostic/Driver diskette for the
16/4 Adapter II which should be available sometime late in May, 1993.
* Busmaster/A - No fix will be supplied.
CRITICAL RESOURCE MONITORING
'Critical Resource Monitoring' refers to the ability of LAN Network
Manager to monitor remote Token-Ring Adapters as 'Critical Resources'
using 802.2 LLC protocols. Busmaster adapters do NOT implement
on-board LLC support as do the Shared RAM adapters and hence will
not respond to queries from LNM unless the LLC support is implemented
in the NDIS Protocol Driver associated with the Busmaster Adapter.
For Novell Netware SERVERs, a separate NLM must be loaded to provide
802.2 LLC support.
Environments: OS/2 - NTS/2
LAN Server - NTS/2
DOS - LAN Support Program 1.3
Novell Netware 3.11 and 4.0
To enable 'Critical Resource Monitoring' on a particular adapter please
read and perform the actions specified in the following 'bullets'.
* LANStreamer MC 32 -
OS/2 (NTS/2): NTS/2 modules: NETBEUI.OS2, NETBIOS.OS2 and ACSNETB.DLL
will have to be replaced with 'fixed' versions of these drivers.
Reference APAR # IC05402.
LAN Server V.3.0 (NTS/2): Same as OS/2 (NTS/2) above.
DOS (LAN Support Program): If you are using LSP 1.33 you should
have no problems monitoring this adapter as a critical resource
Prior versions of LSP (1.30 and 1.31) will need CSD # UR37950 to
insure the function of CRM. DXMJ0MOD.SYS is the only module affected
by this fix so far as CRM is concerned.
Novell Netware: If you install this adapter in a Novell server,
(Versions 3.11 and 4.0 only - Version 2.X is not supported), and
want to monitor the adapter as a critical resource you will have
to add a NetWare Loadable Module to the server configuration.
That module is LLC8022.NLM and is available with Netware V. 4.0
and Netware for SAA V.1.3. This NLM is NOT on Netwire. Contact
your Novell representative for further information about this module.
* 16/4 Adapter II - Same as LANStreamer MC 32
* Busmaster/A Server Adapter - Same as LANStreamer MC 32 except that
the Busmaster/A Server Adapter is NOT supported under DOS/LSP.
RING UTILIZATION
Ring Utilization is a function included in the LAN Station Manager product.
It reports the amount of bandwidth available on a ring to the LNM. This
function is typically installed on one station per LAN segment. For
Ring Utilization to work, the Token-Ring Adapter's microcode must be
written to support the Ring Utilization function.
The LANStreamer MC 32 is the only Token-Ring Busmaster adapter
which supports the Ring Utilization function.
Of the Shared RAM adapters, only two support the Ring Utilization function:
* 16/4 Adapter/A 'Shorty' - Feature Code 0149
* Token-Ring Credit Card Adapter - Feature Code 8072
