Tularemia (Rabbit Fever)
SYMPTOMS include sudden chills, fever (103 to 104), nausea, vomiting, severe
prostration and headache. This will be followed by recurring chills and
sweating, great weakness and soon, at the site of the infection, a small
sore will develop. A red rash that is generalized may appear at any stage.
CAUSES. Francisella tularensis, a bacterium that is found in rodents and
wild rabbits, causes an acute infection.
TREATMENT. Warm-water compresses, antibiotics and medication for headache.
