Leprosy (Hansen's Disease)
SYMPTOMS may include loss of sensation, small nodules (solid swellings),
loss of hair, fever, brown or pink patches on the skin or open sores on skin
CAUSES are from a bacillus called Mycobacterium lepra that is believed to be
transmitted by discharge of the sores from persons already affected with it.
Thought to be very contagious, it is actually one of the least contagious
diseases (about 1 in 20 of those exposed to it).
TREATMENT. Dapsone and maybe an antibiotic may be prescribed.
