Ulcerative Colitis
SYMPTOMS. There will be extensive diarrhea that may be accompanied by fever,
abdominal cramps, loss of appetite, loss of weight, blood and mucus in the
stools and anemia. In severe cases the stools may consist almost entirely of
blood and pus.
CAUSES are unknown at this time. The disease ulcerates and inflames the
colon most often in the age group from 15 to 40 years.
TREATMENT. Medication and a high-calorie, high-protein diet.
.If anemia is severe, a blood transfusion may be required.
.Surgery may be required.
