  4. 9. Channelized Operation:  Using this mode, frequencies are no
  5. longer displayed and the VFO is deactivated.  Only memory
  6. channels are available for use and the display shows CH-01,
  7. CH-02, etc.  A strange "feature" if you ask me.

  9. 10. New Squelch Features:  The unit essentially has 3 squelch
  10. modes (not counting CTCSS or DTMF).  There is the normal noise
  11. activated squelch and two new squelch modes - S-meter squelch
  12. and Microprocessor squelch.  S-meter squelch works on signal
  13. strength instead of noise level and when it is used you preset a
  14. desired S level on your S-meter using the squelch knob.  Only
  15. signals which are stronger than your setting will break
  16. squelch.  The other new mode, Microprocessor squelch, is
  17. basically a full automatic squelch which disables the squelch
  18. knobs entirely leaving the internal CPU to do the work.

  20. 11. Dual band simultaneous scanning: Not particularly new but a
  21. nice feature anyway.  You may continue to scan on one band while
  22. you're talking on the other.  The ability to do dual in-band
  23. scanning has not been tested but should be possible.

  25. 12. Extended Receive Modes:  Cutting the now famous green wire
  26. in the control head will unlock the UHF receiver which comes
  27. factory limited to 438.005-449.995.  After the mod (which
  28. requires no radio disassembly) the UHF receiver will cover from
  29. 410-570 MHz.  Also, an 800 MHz mode is available by pressing and
  30. holding the MHZ front panel key.  The author's transceiver could
  31. hear nothing on 800 leading to speculation that it may be
  32. necessary to either connect another antenna (like the 741) or
  33. perhaps add a jumper somewhere.  The schematic shows that the
  34. 800 MHz frontend is already attached to the antenna port.
