Provided by BARF-80 BBS Cleveland, Ohio

Thanks to the Northern Ohio Amateur Radio Society, Northern Ohio DX
Association, Ohio/Penn PacketCluster Network, DF8WS, OH2BUA, PW8JP,
W4/YV5DTA, AD1C, K4CEF & Southeastern Cluster Group, WA2UDT, N4VZ,
KK6H, K8JP, KF8VW and K8YSE for the following DX information.
4W, YEMEN. Paul, KK6H, informs OPDX that Otto, UA4WAE, indicated that
the Republic of Yemen will not issue a license or operating permission
to a DXpedition group which includes American operators. Also, during
the last several weeks, the U.S. Department of States has issued a series
of "Traveler's Advisories" warning of potential hazards to American
citizens traveling in the region. Therefore, American involvement in the
planned October DXpedition, including the support of ICOM America and
Force 12 Antennas and Systems, has been suspended indefinitely. No
further plans for American participation can be made until these problems
are resolved and all necessary documention is received.
5A0RR CARDS AND ROMEO 3W3RR/AH0M. 5A0RR cards are being received by
many. Word has it that Romeo is in Moscow and will be admitted to a
hospital some time next week. There was no specific word on the reason
for his admittance, but "RUMORS" indicate it has something to do with
his trip to Libya. Statements are being made that there will be no
problem with the 5A0RR documentation and Ed, NT2X, has all the details
and will make them public soon.
9M0S CARDS. It was reported on one of the DX nets that all the labels
were printed and will be sent to W4FRU for processing. Cards should be
out in two weeks.
BV9P, PRATAS ISLANDS. The latest word on this operation is that it has
been delayed again until around October 6-8. The group has decided not
to rely on the official flights to the island, but will hire their own
plane.
EP, IRAN. EX0A, EX0M, EX0O and EX0Y have received their licences from
the Iranian embassy in Bishkek. They will be active from October 1st to
November 1st. They will try to be active on all HF bands, but to be
active on the WARC bands another transceiver is needed. The group is
hoping to find someone to sponsor them. Their calls for this DXpedition
will be EX0A/EP, EX0M/EP and 9D8UM. All QSLs for this operation will
go to DF8WS.
KP2, VIRGIN ISLANDS (U.S.). Bill, WA2UDT, will be active from St. Croix
(NA-106) from August 22 to September 7 operating as WA2UDT/KP2. He will
concentrate on the WARC bands both SSB and CW.
OH0, ALAND ISLANDS (IOTA EU-002). The club station of OH2EW will sign
OH2EW/OH0 from September 24-26. Operators Jyrki/OH2BAP, Jorma/OH2BEJ,
Kari/OH2BMY, Jukka/OH2BUA, Ilpo/OH2KM, Pertti/OH2KIF, Pena/OH2NGS and
Eljas/OH2ZA will operate mainly for participating in the Scandinavian
Activity Contest. They plan to be active on all conventional 80-10
meters bands (from one station) and SSB only. The station will be
equipped with an amp, beams for the higher bands and wires for the
lower bands. QSL via CBA.
SV/A, MOUNT ATHOS. It has been reported that JA3MNP will be active from
here beginning August 20th and will be assisted by SV2WT. There are no
other details at this time.
VS6WV AND THE 41ST ANNUAL W9DXCC CONVENTION. Are you ready to hear
yourself at the end of a DX pile? John, K9EL, has arranged a DX QSO Party
with VS6WV on August 28th from 1130-1230z on approx. 14010 kHz with his
center listening frequency on 14040 kHz (listening up and down). Rain
date will be August 29th. VS6WV will record it all and edit the tape to
be played at the W9DXCC Convention.
The W9DXCC Convention will be held on September 11th at the Glen Ellyn
Holiday Inn, 1250 Roosevelt Rd, Glen Ellyn. Il 60137 (a western suburb of
Chicago). The whole day will be filled with many activites, such as:
presentations on the 1993 Kingman/Palmyra DXpedition and the AH1A
DXpedition. Many other forums will be conducted throughout the day. The
Dinner Banquet speaker will be Bill Kennamer, K5FUV, from the DXCC Desk.
For more details, contact Dick Nord, K(AB, 2417 Maple Ave, Northbrook,
IL 60062.
XV, VIETNAM. XV7TH was active this past weekend (Aug. 14-15) on 14195
kHz at 1430z and 21295 kHz at 1515z. QSL via SK7AX.
ZS0PI, PENGUIN ISLAND (Update). An operator from the German group who
was active from here stated they experienced extremely poor propagation
from Penguin Island to North America. They made 10,000 QSO's, but only
200 were with North American stations.
ZZ8SA, SAN ANTONIO ISLAND. PW8ACE, PW8AFL, PW8EM, PW8NG, PW8PA and PW8TR
will be active from 0000z August 21st to 2400z August 22nd. Contacts will
be valid for the Brazilian Islands Award. Operations will begin on the
Brazilian DX Net (21223 kHz), but the following frequencies will be used:
CW - 3515, 7015, 14015, 21015 and 28015 kHz and SSB - 3780, 7080, 14260,
21260 and 28460 kHz. QSL via PW8NG, Miguel Roumi, PO Box 84, 780900-970
Porto Velho - RO, Brazil.
WRONG AND NEW ADDRESS. Nick, 6O/G3KOX, who is now back in England
reports that his callbook address is wrong. The correct address for
G3KOX is: Nicholas J. Waite, 7 Lanercost Close, Welwyn Herts, England.
Cards sent to the old address are picked up every few months and most do
not get lost, but if you don't get your cards in a few months, try the
new address....... Steve, W4/YV5DTA, wants to inform OPDX readers that
for people who need QSLs from his last operation from "La Tortuga Island
(SA-044)" to use his new address. QSL to Esteban Morao, 850 E. Comm
Blvd. # 131, Fort Lauderdale, Fl 33334. Steve also mentioned he can help
in retrieving QSL cards for YV5ARV...... For those still waiting on YX0AI
QSL cards, a new address has emerged with a turn around in as little as
two weeks. This is an address in Miami. QSLs are gathered and sent via
an air cargo plane where the cards are collected at the other end and
then sent to the QSL Manager by courier rather than through the mail.
The adress is: Mike Manafo, ECA SAM 314, Jet Cargo International, Box
020010 Miami FL 33102-0010....
PREFIX CHANGE. There has been a report that the New Brunswick stations
will be converting to the VE9 prefix in 1994. They will have the first
3 months of 1994 to change from VE1 to VE9. The VE9 prefix used to be
the prefix given to experimental stations.
