  16. 3V, TUNISIA AND 5A, LIBYA. Ed, NT2X, has spoken to Romeo, 3W3RR/AH0M,
  17. and has passed on the following information: Romeo has attended an
  18. amateur radio conference in Spain, and another in Austria, and has also
  19. been active from Slovakia as OK8ERR. He has reported that the 5A license
  20. has been all taken care of. The antennas are ready and he is awaiting
  21. for a few more pieces of equipment before commencing the operation. The
  22. operation may take place some time within the first week of June. No
  23. call sign has been mentioned.

  25. As far as Tunisia is concerned: The DXpedition has been postponed
  26. until August (to allow for better preparation). This operation has
  27. become a multi-national undertaking with a total of 16 operators from
  28. the USA, Japan, Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine and possibly
  29. one or two more countries. The operation plans are to be active for 10
  30. days, 3 operating positions, all bands/modes (including RTTY), 2 meters,
  31. 6 meters, etc. and the uses of yagi antennas.

  33. 9D, IRAN. Nagib, PY2CWW, will be in Iran for the next two years signing
  34. 9D2CW. He has been active on the 21335 DX Net starting around 1330z and
  35. was also heard on CW, 21023 kHz around 1045z. It was mentioned that the
  36. 9D2 prefixes are issued to no Iranian nationals and EP will be used
  37. for citizens only.

  39. 9E, ERITREA. On May 24th, Eritrea finally declared itself "the world's
  40. newest nation", two years after winning a 30 year war of independence.
  41. Eritrea was deleted as a seperate DXCC country November 14, 1962 after
  42. it had been annexed by Ethiopia as its 14th province, but is now under
  43. consideration to be reinstated by the DXAC.
  44.  
  45. On the heel of this declaration, Erling, LA6VM, announced that a
  46. Norwegian DXpedition to Asmara will take place May 31st thru June 9th.
  47. The DXpedition is organized by "Ham Forum" (LA5X). The DXpedition's team
  48. consists of: Erling/LA6VM (team leader), Just/LA9DL, Halvard/LA7XK/KK6ZS,
  49. Einar/LA1EE and Jin/JF1IST.
  50.  
  51. The DXpedition team will conduct amateur radio seminars and help in
  52. setting up a club station with on-the-air operations. Engineers,
  53. techicians and students selected by the Telecommunications Authority
  54. of Eritrea will attend. HF Operations will include SSB and CW, with
  55. participation of resident operators as part of the seminar. Callsign
  56. and frequencies will be announced later, from site. The three complete
  57. stations will include the uses of the equipment that was used during
  58. the Bouvet Island DXpedition, as well as a new tri-bander donated by
  59. INDEXA. Other contributors include the ARRL, Oklahomo Comm Center,
  60. NCDXF, as well as funding by Japanese hams and the team members.

  64. 9M0S, SPRATLY ISLANDS. Thanks to the Royal Air Force of Malyasia, this
  65. operation came up on the air as planned on May 27th and will continue
  66. until about June 2. QSL via W4FRU.

  68. CO, CUBA. For the VHF ops out there, Arnie, CO2KK reports his Havanna
  69. VHF club will be running a multiop effort in the June VHF QSO Party
  70. June 12-14. They will be active on 6, 2, & 70cm from a hilltop location
  71. on the north coast of Cuba. They've applied for special prefixes,
  72. including possibly CO0, which has never before been used. Arnie asks for
  73. operators in the southeast U.S. to point their beams south and look for
  74. the group. SPECIAL NOTE: There may be an outside chance of using 1.2
  75. GHz, if a rig gets successfully built by then.

  77. KH9, WAKE ISLAND (ITS OFFICIAL). The Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club (W6BHZ)
  78. officially announced that their KH9 DXpedition/Research will begin August
  79. 31 and go until September 10, 1993. Five of the six team members will
  80. assemble in San Franciso August 29. They will then fly out to Honolulu
  81. the morning of August 30. The MAC flight from Hickam AFB departs August
  82. 31, 1993 in the early morning and they expect to arrive on Wake Island
  83. in the early afternoon and be on the air shortly.

  85. Four of the team members are university students at CAL POLY SLO.  All
  86. team members have DXpedition/Contesting experience from various parts of
  87. the world. The teams are:  Javier/AH6MM (TEAM LEADER/PROJECT DIRECTOR)
  88. Christopher/AB6EV, Kirk/AH6ML, Craig/KC6CEX, Craig/AH9B and Patrick/NH6UY.
  89. Activity will be on all bands (160-6 meters), including the WARC bands
  90. ("HEAVY EMPHASIS"), OSCAR Satellites (2 meter and 70 cm) and normal DX
  91. frequencies. The DXpedition's callsigns will be announced later, but
  92. QSLs for all contacts will be handled by OKDXA: Oklahoma DX Association,
  93. P.O. Box 88, Wellston, OK 74881. This is a student funded project, but

  98. LX, LUXEMBOURG. Wolf, DL3ZBJ, will be active as LX/DL3ZBJ/P during the
  99. Region 1 Field Day, June 5-6. Activity will be mainly CW. All incoming
  100. QSL cards will be answered via the bureau 100%.

  102. SV5/N6MZ, KOS ISLAND. Mike, N6MZ, will be sailing the Aegean Sea next
  103. month and he was invited to visit Panos, SV5QR's, QTH which is on the
  104. island of Kos, about 150km northwest of Rhodes, and 5 km off the Turkish
  105. coast. Unfortunately, Mike's time will be very limited, but he plans to
  106. give out new contacts on OSCAR 13. Possible operating days are June 19
  107. and 20, also July 4. QSL to N6MZ. More info will follow as details are
  108. worked out.

  110. VK9M, MELLISH REEF. The international team for the 1993 Mellish Reef
  111. DXpedition have announced the confirmed dates for this major operation.
  112. The 10 days of operation will between September 19-28.
  113.  
  114. AH1A CARDS. The 10 operators of this DXpedition have agree on the design
  115. for their QSL card. Apple Computer of Europe will be printing the cards
  116. in Belgium. John, K1ER, estimates the cards will be in the mail by
  117. September 1993. Please be patient and do not re-QSL.

  119. NEW RUSSIA QSL BUREAU. It has been reported that there is a new bureau
  120. for Russian cards. Its is being run by the Moscow Club. The address is:

  123. MORE ON THE NEW CIS CALL SIGN PREFIXES. John, K1ER, was told by
  124. Valentine, UI8ZAA, that the new CIS call signs will start in 1994. He
  125. also mentioned the new call sign for Uzbekistan will be UK (currently
  126. UI8). Looks like the article in "Patriot" may have had a problem with
  127. the translation and may have put the Uzbekistan block of UJ to UM with
  128. the Ukraine block. It was also announced in Germany that the ITU allocated
  129. 4JA-4JZ and 4KA-4KZ to Azerbaijan. Russia is presently using the 4K
  130. prefixes for their Antarctica and Arctic Islands. (ed. Hopefully this
  131. will all be straighten out by 1994.)

  133. PREFIX CHANGE. QRZ DX mentioned last week that the ITU has requested the
  134. government of Yemen to relinquish either 4W or 7O. The government has
  135. relinquished 7O, so Yemen is now 4W.

  137. Also, the ARRL's Bulletin DX mentions that the latest release of the
  138. International Radio call sign blocks list by ITU shows Macedonia (former
  139. Yugoslav Republic) being assigned Z3A-Z3Z.  No word has been received
  140. with regard to when the Z3 call signs go into effect.

  144. FAX Service Class 2 (EIA/TIA 592) only. Use only the dates and times
  145. specified. FAX Service Class 1 (EIA/TIA 578) is availble upon request by
  146. leaving a message to the Sysop on BARF-80 BBS. The FAX card is sharing
  147. the same phone line as BARF-80 BBS using a data/fax/phone switch.
