  4.    Howdy, folks!  We have a humdinger of a column for you this
  5. month!  We've got a look at a new book that will surely knock
  6. your socks off.

  8. THIS IS THE BBC ?!?!?!?!

  10.    Luigi Sadowski sends us a review of a new book that will
  11. surely undermine the hero worship we all feel for BBC news
  12. readers.  But, didn't we always suspect that things weren't quite
  13. what they seemed at the beeb?  Take it away, Luigi...

  15.    "Just out from Reynoldsburg DX University Press is Dr. Pamela
  16. Amboy's latest book, "A History of Social Deviance Amoung BBC
  17. News Readers: 1945-1989".  Although this book is obviously aimed
  18. at DX sociologists, even the average DXer will gain a better
  19. appreciation of what really goes on behind the scenes at the Beeb
  20. by reading it.  Its 672 pages are divided into seventeen
  21. chapters, arranged chronologically, to fully cover the post-war
  22. and Cold War eras.  The chronological arrangement allows the
  23. reader to easily see the rise and fall of various forms of social
  24. deviance at the BBC over the years.  In fact, the final chapter
  25. extrapolates on what forms of social deviance are most likely
  26. amoung BBC news readers in the next decade.  The author cautions
  27. that these predictions must remain, at best, tentative due to the
  28. sudden end of the Cold War.  The highlight is a 76 page appendix
  29. of charts and graphs summarizing the book's major premises and
  30. findings in statistical form.  Many of these can be purchased
  31. from the author in 24x36 inch poster size for a nominal fee.  It
  32. is thoroughly indexed and has an excellent bibliography.  The
  33. book's only drawback, in my view, is that it would be more fun at
  34. parties if some descriptive grainy black and white photos were
