  1. Due to changes in the database definition required to support the middle name
  2. and source fields you will need to convert your version 4.X files to the new
  3. version 5.0 format.  NOTE:  If you have files that are version 3.X or earlier
  4. I have the conversion program available on my bbs or you can send me a disk
  5. for a copy of that program.  IF YOU HAVE VERSION 3.X OR EARLIER FILES, DO NOT 
  6. RUN THE CONV4TO5 CONVERSION PROGRAM!  YOU MUST GET A COPY OF THE PROGRAM TO 
  7. CONVERT THE FILES TO VERSION 4.0 BEFORE YOU CAN CONVERT THEM TO VERSION 5.0!!

  9. It would be advisable to back up your data files before doing the conversion to
  10. the new format.  To do this, copy all files with the following extensions to a
  11. floppy disk or to another directory on your hard disk:
  12.                             .DAT    (data files)
  13.                             .K0?    (Key files)   (the ? is a number from 1-9) 
  14.                             .MEM     (Memo files)

  16. To convert your files, copy the CONV4TO5.EXE program to your hard disk in the
  17. same directory as your data files.  Then just type CONV4TO5 and press the
  18. "ENTER" key.  You will be asked to confirm that you want to make the 
  19. conversion.  The process may take a fair amount of time if you have large data
  20. files.  This will of course depend on the speed of your computer.

  22. Then you can copy the rest of the new files on to your hard disk and you will be
  23. ready to run the new version of the program.

  25. The major changes to the program for version 5.0 are the addition of a middle
  26. name field, and the capability of adding up to two lines of source data for 
  27. each record entered.  I also greatly speeded up the insert a new record at a 
  28. specified location sequence function.  The reports were changed to allow you 
  29. to print just the index portion if desired.  Registered users will also 
  30. receive, as a part of the CRD UTILITIES program, the capability of creating a 
  31. master index of all data which will show all names and which database they are 
  32. in as well as what type of entry the name is. i.e. Surname, Maiden Name or in 
  33. the Remarks area of the record.
