The Saga Continues:
Formula 1 Grand Prix Team And Driver Editor v1.3
by
SurfNazis
A small editor to change team performances, driver skills, car colors
and car numbers for Formula 1 Grand Prix/World Circuit.
With this editor, you can edit version 1.04 of the game, including
the US and European version updates plus the US version 1.05 (I think)
(to edit the previous version 1.02 use F1ED v1.2). They are automatically
detected upon loading. In addition, all driving helps are made available
in any skill level.
Before using this program, be sure to make a backup copy of your
original GP.EXE file, as it will be changed directly.
SURFNAZIS WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE OR LOSS OF DATA
CAUSED BY THIS PROGRAM. USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Changes since version 1.2:
The name file NAMES 93 and default F1ED.DTA have changed since version
1.2 and I strongly recommend that you consider using the new ones
as the basis for your personal use. F1ED.DTA has changed completely
to allow for the expanding of changeable data, but the editor has
no difficulties in reading the old format, although it saves
the edited file in the new 1.3 format.
Recommended installation:
Copy the following files to GPRIX main directory (the one
including GP.EXE):
F1ED.DTA (Only if you don't have it already)
F1ED.EXE
SVGA256.BGI (Included without author's permit, but as no money
is gained, it is assumed that it won't matter.
Copyright (c) 1991 Jordan Hargraphix.)
Also included is a name file for the '93 season. Copy it to
your saves directory if you want to use it.
Usage:
At the command line prompt, type F1ED <namefile>, where <namefile>
is the relative path and filename of the name file you have
previously saved from the game. It is used to display correct
team and driver names and will not be changed by this program.
Changing team performances:
Click on a team name to highlight it and use the LARGE plus and
minus buttons to change the value, which ranges from 100 to 999
and represents a relative power of the cars. The power of
the cars controlled by human players is always 716 and cannot be
changed.
Changing team colors:
Click on a team name to highlight it and use the '<' and '>' buttons
below the car to change the part of car. Clicking on a color in
the palette will then change the part's color. Avoid using grey
colors in the lower half of the palette and colors on the top row
as they are used in the 'dashboard'. There might also be others
that do not behave like they should in wet races. Also note that
the polygons of the first team do not entirely correspond to the
car that you see in the game. You can also copy a car's color scheme
and paste it to another car. The last two teams can be used as
temporary storage for your colors, because they can not take part
in a race.
Changing driver skills:
First select a team and then click on a skill number you want to
change. 'Q' stands for qualifying skill and 'R' stands for race
skill. Then use the small plus and minus buttons to change the
values. Skills range from 1 to 34, 1 being the best. Not 100%
sure that skills work in this way, but generally the results are
acceptable.
Changing car numbers:
First select a team and then click on the driver number you want
to change. Use the small plus and minus buttons to change the
number. If you set the number to zero, the driver in question
will not be available during game. Currently you can set the
number to values 0 through 40, but the game only supports drivers
1 through 36 (other numbers will not be available when playing).
Duplicate numbers are not permitted. If you try to save your data
while having duplicate car numbers, you will hear two low beeps
and the save will not be made.
Saving:
Click on the 'W' letter in the upper right corner of the screen.
The program updates your GP.EXE and also makes a file named
F1ED.DTA with the current values and colors. Upon starting the
editor, F1ED.DTA is checked for existence. When found, F1ED.DTA is
used to read in the performance and skill values. If F1ED.DTA is not
found, the values are read in from GP.EXE. Team and driver names are
always read from the name file specified on the command line. A low
beep will sound if something went wrong during disk access and a
high click is produced if all is well. Also note that data for the
last two teams is not saved because they are not available during
play.
Exiting:
To exit the program, click on the letter 'X' in the lower right
corner of the screen. Make sure you've saved your modifications
before you exit.
History:
1.04 30 March 1993
First release. Included two separate programs, one for each
version of the game (1.02 and 1.04).
1.1 31 March 1993
Added version detection and merged the two separate programs that
were in the first release. A small bug in the name file loading
corrected. Driving helps in all skill levels added.
1.2 6 April 1993
Support for US, Italian and European version 1.04 updates added.
1.3 4 June 1993
Car numbers can now be edited. Supports US version 1.05. Version
1.02, 1.03 and Italian 1.04 support dropped since I don't have them
any more. Some code rewritten to reduce size. Now you can Copy,
Paste and Undo color schemes.
Bug reports:
If you find any bugs/peculiarities etc. please post them in
comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.misc. You can be sure that they are read and
looked into.
