MESSAGE 1
You hear a very strange sound. It grows louder and louder. Finally, the
sound stops and it is quiet.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 2
Talking to a toad is rather strange --even for you! You must be desperate to
solve this adventure or have other kinds of problems. The toad seems somewhat
amused by your attempts at communication. He stares at you and then responds
with a loud belch-like "RIB-BIT".
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 3
The guard looks at you suspiciously because you neglected to identify yourself
by using the proper password. He knows you shouldn't be here and decides that
he should take you to the Baron for questioning. He rushes toward you.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 4
The $noun$ is now open.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 5
The princess and you trade a few conversational gambits. Finally, when you
reach the depths of conversational inanity by saying "I'm a Leo. What is your
sign?", she smiles sweetly and suggests that you both had better be going
since she had "miles to go before I sleep (with you, turkey)."
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 6
To $verb$ here is not very safe! In fact -- It is down-right dangerous!
You obviously need to be taught a lesson in Adventure Game safety. So -- here
goes: As you $verb$ you accidentally fall and break your leg. 'Tis a
pity, you're a such a foolish and clumsy knave!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 7
The princess smiles at you sweetly and responds, "I'm afraid I don't know
anything about the $object$. Perhaps, we should get going. It is
dangerous to linger here."
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 8
What a great idea! You must have played this game before, but unfortunately
you can't do that now. It is still a good idea and you may wish to try it
some other time. But now it is impossible
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 9
You charge at the door at full speed. You hit it with your shoulder, bounce
off and land with a "thud" on the floor. After rubbing the ache in your
shoulder, you stand up. It is obvious that your body will break before the
door does!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 10
You crack the egg open. A little sparrow is inside. The sparrow stretches
its wings and its beak moves and you hear it say, "Thank you for releasing me.
I was imprisoned by the Baron many years ago. To repay you for your kindness,
let me give you a hint: SCOTT HAS THE MAGIC WORD!"
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 11
You have no container.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 12
Oh damn! What a waste!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 13
without the proper tool!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 14
Obviously, you are confused and need help! For 10 points, I will give you an
A-1 hint (guaranteed to help you get into the castle).
Would you like the hint?
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 15
OK...You $verb$ the $noun$.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 16
Remember ...this will cost you 10 points: LOOK IN THE CAVE FOR THE MEANS TO
ENTER THE CASTLE
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 17
It is pitch black in here and you can't see your hand in front of your face.
You are really in deep weeds! Sorry, I can't help you. You got yourself into
this mess, so you will just have to get yourself out of it!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 18
You don't see the $noun$ here.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 19
You walk across the drawbridge and find .....
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 20
You tune the harp using the tuning key. It sounds much, much better. You
have a much better ear for music than anyone would ever have imagined!
Unfortunately, a good ear for music doesn't count for much in this adventure.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 21
You climb up on the horse's back and ride it around. The horse handles very
well and you can understand why it is one of the Baron's most precious
possessions. After a very pleasant ride you dismount. You pat the horse
affectionately.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 22
A voice booms out ....
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 23
LEAVE THE SIGN ALONE, DUMMY!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 24
Why on earth would your ever want to do that? Don't you know that to
$verb$ the $noun$ would be extremely silly!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 25
The guard won't let you $verb$ the $noun$.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 26
THE BARON SUCKS EGGS!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 29
After a few unsuccessful tries, the grappling hook finally catches. The rope
hangs down to the ground. You test it by tugging on it a couple of times and
it seems strong enough to hold your weight.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 30
You have to throw the rope first, dummy!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 31
The matches are too wet to light!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 32
The harp sounds quite good. You manage to play several beautiful melodies,
mostly classic folk ballads.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 33
An angry-looking guard suddenly enters the room. He eyes you suspiciously and
begins to move quickly and carefully toward you. He reaches for his sword,
but pauses as if he is waiting for you to make the first move.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 34
The wall is quite smooth and there is no place to get either hand or toe
holds. It is much too high and steep to climb.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 35
Something fell out.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 36
Try the harp.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 37
After a few false starts and a lot of burnt matches you get the wood to burn.
It finally begins to blaze brightly and you can feel the fire's warmth. It
feels good and the chill of the night air begins to fade.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 38
What happens next is just too ugly to describe. Let's just summarize by
saying that you made the piranha a tasty meal!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 39
You climb hand over hand up the rope --to find .....
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 40
TIMBER!!
You $verb$ a $noun$ down and it crashed to the ground. My, my! You
are a destructive knight! And messy, too!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 41
You quickly (but carefully) let yourself down the rope -- to find ...
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 42
The guard gets mad at you because he knows you aren't allowed here. He picks
you up and throws you over the edge to the cavern floor far below. He stands
at the edge looking down at you and laughingly cries, "Stay out! If you know
what is good for you. Next time, I will get rough!" He laughs again and
throws your rope down to the cavern floor beside you.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 43
with a broken leg.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 44
Your leg has finally healed. You are now free to resume your quest.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 45
The guard looks you over very carefully, but because you are wearing the
Baron's armor, the guard mistakes you for the Baron. "Sorry to disturb you,
my Lord!", he says as he quickly leaves the room.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 46
You don't have the necessary resources to $verb$ the $noun$.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 47
Time heals all things.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 48
The harp is about 4 feet tall and quite old. It is made out of wood with lots
of cat gut strings. It is in perfect tune.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 49
The guard grabs your throat with his big hands. He squeezes until you can
barely breathe. You struggle and try to pull his hands away.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 50
Finally, you slip into unconsciousness. When you awake you find yourself in a
strange and ugly little room.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 51
At last, you pry his fingers off your wind pipe. Now able to breathe, you get
enough strength to slam your elbow into his gut. He lets go of you and
doubles over. You kick him in a very vulnerable part of his anatomy and he
crumples in a pile on the floor.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 52
With a might toss, you throw the $noun$. Unfortunately, it falls short
and hits the other side and bounces with a "thud" into the chasm! After a
very long time, you hear it hit bottom.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 54
You must really have a sick mind! But -- your wish is my command and must be
obeyed -- no matter how bizarre. Ok ... here goes ... You pick up the toad.
Grasping it firmly, you give it a tender little kiss on the top of the head.
Suddenly, the earth starts to tremble and the toad begins to glow with a
bright red light. You are blinded by the light and cover your eyes with your
arm. After a while the earth stops trembling and you remove your arm from
your eyes. You see the beautiful princess Ann standing before you.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 55
You take the princess in your arms and try to kiss her softly on the lips.
However, she pushes you away rather roughly and screams, "No hanky-panky,
buzzard breath!" Then realizing she needs your help, she smiles at you. "We
had best be on our way", she says. "We will have plenty of time for love when
we have escaped from here". You sigh in agreement.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 56
Sorry...about that! Maybe that will teach you not to trust anyone or anything
during your quest -- even the HELP messages.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 57
The skull speaks:
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 58
Beware the vampire!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 59
Beware the chest!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 60
Beware the gold bars!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 61
You take the princess in your strong arms and kiss her tenderly on her red
lips. You are a great romantic and a great adventurer! Because you kissed
her even after you had completed the game, you win a special bonus of 50
points!
You marry the princess and live happily ever after! (Who says adventure games
can't have happy endings!!)
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 63
A vampire bat just bit you. This is normally fatal, so you may wish to make
your peace with God.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 64
The door slams shut and you are trapped like a rat in a cage!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 65
You hear the flapping of many wings. Bats!! A shiver of fear shocks your
very being.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 66
The toad says: RIB--BIT!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 67
You pour the wine over the fire until it is finally extinguished. What an
absolutely horrible waste of good wine! Your sense of priorities leaves a lot
to be desired! If you had any prospective you would have drunk the wine
beside the fire while you bask in its warm glow. Me thinks you're a jerk!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 68
You were just bitten by a poisonous spider! This type of spider is very
deadly -- so your life is about to end somewhat prematurely.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 69
The Baron suddenly appears with a large sword. He swings it at your head and
unfortunately cuts your ear off. He thrusts his sword into your gut. Blood
pours out from both wounds. You try to defend yourself, but it is hopeless.
You are seriously wounded and gradually lose your will to fight. The Baron
steps back and smiles as you slump to the floor. He raises his sword for one
finally blow.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 72
You don't have any water to put out the fire.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 73
The wine bottle shatters into a zillion pieces!
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 74
The light flickers and the torch grows weaker.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 75
If I were you, I would find a way out of here pretty quick before the torch
goes out! This would not be a fun place to be caught stumbling around in the
dark.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 76
Sorry, but your torch light flickers for the last time and goes out.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 77
You are stumbling around in the dark --which could be quite dangerous! You
could easily break your neck.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 78
You hack away at the rope holding up the drawbridge with the axe. Finally,
the rope parts and the drawbridge comes crashing down. The drawbridge now
spans the moat and may be easily crossed whenever you wish to leave the
castle.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 79
As you start to $verb$ it, the $noun$ begins to glow quite brightly
with a bluish color. Finally it disappears in a puff of blue smoke.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 80
The toad hops along after you.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 81
The princess tags along behind you.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 82
You search the unconscious guard's tunic and discover a set of keys.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 83
You see the Baron's best horse. It looks quite mistreated. You give it some
oats and pat it affectionately. As you move about the stable, the horse trots
along beside you. It looks like you have made a friend and it will follow you
anywhere.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 84
As you start to drop them, the things you were carrying begin to glow quite
brightly with a bluish color. Finally they disappear in puffs of blue smoke.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 85
After a few false starts and a lot of broken matches you finally get one of
the matches lit. It burns brightly for a few moments and then goes out.
END_MESSAGE
MESSAGE 86
As you caress her you feel the earth move and bells ringing in the distance.
Oh Rapture! Oh bless!
END_MESSAGE
