  1. YOUR MODEM HAS THE ABILITY TO ADJUST ITS IMPEDANCE TO MATCH YOUR LOCAL
  2. PHONE LINE.
  3.                           Enter  'terminal' mode. Type AT\E1 and press  the
  4. [enter]  key. This tells your modem to adjust to your phone line  when  you
  5. make  your  next  V.32bis call. Make the V.32bis  call  immediately   after
  6. entering AT\E1. You may not connect on the first  try, as the modem will be
  7. making  this  adjustment. However your modem will now be  adjusted  to  the
  8. phone  line, and this step will not have to be repeated unless  you  change
  9. phone lines.

  11.               Normal INIT for modems on a PC AT&F&C1&D2
  12.      Sometimes, even though the modem seems to get a good connect  (usually
  13. with  hi-speed modem) it does not actually make the  connection  correctly.
  14. (It  may  be the OTHER end making the error). Often if you use one  of  the
  15. (prefix)  strings to force that connect speed the connection will  be  made
  16. 'solid' on both ends.

  18.                  V.32 / V.42bis Dialing Prefixes
  19.  
  20.      The  normal dial Prefix is ATDT. If the number  is  423-1563 then   it
  21. sends ATDT4231563 to the modem, which then  dials,   and connects. This  is
  22. using  auto-speed  (baud)  negotiation as well   as  negotiating   Protocol
  23. (V.42bis, MNP etc.). Some modems/software you  will call do NOT like  this.
  24. Listed are alternate dial Prefixes you may use.

  26. AT&Q5N1DT           :negotiates SPEED and Protocol (default)
  27. AT&Q6N1DT           :negotiates SPEED only
  28. AT&Q5S37=11N0DT     :*Connect 14400, negotiate Protocol 2
  29. AT&Q6S37=11N0DT     :*Connect 14400 only 2
  30. AT&Q5S37=9N0DT      :*Connect 9600, negotiate Protocol
  31. AT&Q6S37=9N0DT      :*Connect 9600 only
  32. AT&Q5S37=6N0DT      :Connect 2400, negotiate Protocol
  33. AT&Q6S37=6N0DT      :Connect 2400 only
  34. AT&Q6S37=5N0DT      :Connect 1200 only
  35. AT&Q6S37=1N0DT      :Connect 300 only

  39. NOTE: I discovered when a user couldn't connect to a 300bps modem, that  if
  40. I  did  AT&F  (set  &C0&D0) before using the dial  prefix,  then  it  would
  41. connect. This is worth a try on stubborn 1200bps modems too.

  43.               Connect result messages / modem speed
  44.  
  45. S95=44   gives  you full result messages with CONNECT  (modem  to  computer
  46. speed).  If  you need CONNECT (modem to  modem) speed the same  as  CARRIER
  47. (modem  to modem) use S95=45. When running a BBS, try  S95=3 and  you  will
  48. get only CONNECT(carrier) message, with \ARQ for error correcting   modems.
  49. Always  set  your  'speed'  in your program  to   the  highest  permissable
  50. computer  -  to - modem speed (check your manual). The  V.32xx  or  V.42bis
  51. modem will take care of modem to modem speed.
