  3.              GUIDELINES FOR MODEM PREPARATION
  4.  
  5. NOTE:  Examples  are  given for MTEZ software,  but  the  general
  6. approach  applies to other software. The macros given assume  you
  7. have MTEZ xx/xx/xx or later, which already has macros  installed.
  8. If you have an earlier version, see MACRO NOTES below.

  11. YOUR MODEM HAS THE ABILITY TO ADJUST ITS IMPEDANCE TO MATCH  YOUR
  12. LOCAL PHONE LINE.
  13.  
  14.      From  the MTEZ menu, enter 'terminal' mode. Type  AT\E1  and
  15. press  the [enter] key. This tells your modem to adjust  to  your
  16. phone line when you make your next V.32bis call. Make the V.32bis
  17. call  immediately  after entering AT\E1. You may not  connect  on
  18. the  first   try, as the modem will be  making  this  adjustment.
  19. However  your modem will now be adjusted to the phone  line,  and
  20. this  step will not have to be repeated unless you  change  phone
  21. lines.

  24. USING MACROS TO FORCE 2400 OR 9600 CONNECTIONS.
  25.  
  26.      When  calling a 2400 BPS modem, the <alt>-2 macro will  tell
  27. the  modem  to connect at 2400 with no speed  negotiation.  Press
  28. <alt>-2 and then use the MTEZ dialing directory to make the call.
  29.      If you need to force a 9600 connection use the <alt>-1 macro
  30. before making the call using your dialing directory.
  31.      If you want to return the modem to the default, in which the
  32. modem will negotiate speed, use the <alt>-3 macro.

  34. IF THE OTHER MODEM DOES NOT HAVE ERROR CORRECTION CAPABILITY  YOU
  35. MAY WANT TO DISABLE ERROR CORRECTION IN YOUR MODEM
  36.  
  37.      Press  <alt>-D  or select <D>ial to go to the  MTEZ  dialing
  38. directory.  Press 'E' to edit your phone entry. Under 'type'  use
  39. the  space  bar to toggle this type setting to 'NONE'.  Then  for
  40. this  entry protocol  negotiation (MNP or V.42bis) will be  turned
  41. off. Press <esc> to save.
  42.      In  addition  you  may  use  <alt>-1  or  <alt>-2  to  force
  43. connections after setting 'type' to 'none'.

  46. MACRO  NOTES:  Macros may be assigned (if needed) or  changed  as
  47. follows.

  49.    From the MTEZ menu select <C>hange, then <M>acro.
  50.    <alt>-1 macro is   ATS37=9N0!   (! is carriage  return  for  macro)
  51.    <alt>-2 macro is   ATS37=6N0!
  52.    <alt>-3 macro is   ATN1!

  54. Be sure to use the 'S' to save, as MTEZ does not save the  macros
  55. automatically. (the N0 is ZERO not letter 'O').
