  6. INTRODUCTION
  7.  
  8. WCUTIL is an add-on for WinCIS that implements several features:
  9.  
  10.         *    Adding multiple addresses to e-Mail (either new or 
  11.                 existing) messages
  12.         *    Uploading files to forums
  13.         *    Special message requests
  14.  
  15. In addition to these major functions, WCUTIL also provides:
  16.  
  17.         *    A hook to a "front end" script
  18.         *    A configurable billing script
  19.         *    Conversion of  MOX files into files readable using the 
  20.                 built-in WinCIS message reader and 
  21.         *    The creation of shadow forums to hold saved messages
  22.         *    Menu items to easily edit several of WinCIS's support 
  23.                 files (button files, INI files etc.)
  24.         
  25. There is no printed or printable manual.  The help file is the manual.
  26.  
  27. WCUTIL uses a combination of script generation controlled by a 
  28. stand-alone visual basic application and a modified script template 
  29. (named, by default, WCUTIL.TPL) to perform various on-line 
  30. processing.

  33. REGISTRATION
  34.  
  35. WCUTIL is not free.  It is being released as ShareWare.  If you 
  36. continue to use WCUTIL, please register and pay the $19.95 fee.
  37. This is a one time registration fee.  That is, future updates to the 
  38. program (barring a revision more major than any I foresee), will be 
  39. free.
  40.  
  41. Since this program is specifically used for logging onto CIS (with 
  42. WinCIS), there will be no support other than via CIS;  and there will 
  43. be no disk based version of the program.  That is to say, since I can 
  44. assume all users can log onto CIS, all support will be provided either 
  45. via e-Mail or (preferably) in the WinCIS section of  the WUGNET 
  46. forum;  and all updates will be posted to Library 13 of the WUGNET 
  47. forum.

  49. All registration will be handled on-line, via CIS's SWREG function.
  50. To register, Select Script.Remain On-line to stay on-line after your 
  51. automatic session is done, or log onto CIS using the Interactive button.

  53. At the command prompt type

  57. and follow the on screen instructions.

  61. INSTALLATION
  62. ________________________________________________________________

  64.         WCUTIL.EXE must be in the same directory as WINCIS.EXE.
  65.  
  66.         WCUTIL.INI must be present and in the same directory as 
  67.         WCUTIL.EXE.
  68.  
  69.         WCUTIL.TPL is a script template containing the various script 
  70.         instructions necessary to utilize the on-line features of WCUTIL.EXE.  
  71.         You must either make this TPL your active template or copy this file 
  72.         to WINCIS.TPL.  It makes no difference which you do.
  73.         
  74.         To set WCUTIL.TPL as the active template select:
  75.         
  76.                  Settings.Processing Options.Template to Build Scripts from
  77.                  
  78.         and enter WCTUIL.TPL in the edit box.
  79.         
  80.         WCUTIL.HLP should also be copied to your WinCIS directory.

  84. ASSUMPTIONS
  85.  
  86. WCUTIL makes the following assumptions.
  87.  
  88.         *    That you are using the default installation regarding 
  89.                 directory structure:  control files are in 
  90.                 C:\WINCIS\CONTROL, and all messages are stored in 
  91.                 C:\WINCIS\MESSAGES.
  92.         *    That the file paths contained in your CFG file and in 
  93.                 WINCIS.INI are hard coded directories rather than 
  94.                 variable directories.  That is to say, you are not using the 
  95.                 variable method of pointing to a directory, such as 
  96.                 &WinCISPath\CONTROL, but are specifying directories 
  97.                 with their full path name, e.g. C:\WINCIS\CONTROL.
  98.         *    Version 1.0 of WCUTIL assumes that you are using 
  99.                 WinCIS .94D.  WCUTIL will work with version .94C, 
  100.                 but not properly.  Specifically, the Special Request 
  101.                 Function is significantly hampered.

  105. HOW TO USE
  106.  
  107. Simply run WCUTIL before logging onto CIS to modify mail (add 
  108. CCs), add new mail, specify files to upload to a forum, or add special 
  109. message handling requests to the next run.
  110.  
  111. There are two possible cases to consider when running WCUTIL:
  112.  
  113. 1) WCUTIL is run and its options selected before loading WinCIS:
  114. In this case, selecting either of the functions which require that a 
  115. forum be "active" in order for the custom script to be executed, will be 
  116. marked by WCUTIL in STATUS.INF for "read waiting messages".  
  117. The effect of this is that when you load WinCIS it will read 
  118. STATUS.INF and the forum activities selected in WCUTIL will be 
  119. executed when those forums are entered by logging onto CIS with the 
  120. Actions button.  You will see Messages(Waiting) activated in the 
  121. forum list.
  122.  
  123. 2) WCUTIL is run and its options selected after loading WinCIS:
  124. In this case, the marking of a form as active (as described above), will 
  125. not be "registered" by WinCIS.  I hope to make the connection 
  126. smarter, with Larry's help, in a future release.  For the time being, you 
  127. have one of two choices:
  128.  
  129. Manually change any processing option for the forum you want to 
  130. process with a WCUTIL script.
  131.  
  132. or
  133.  
  134. Logon to CIS using the Messages button rather than the Actions 
  135. button.

  138. COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
  139. ________________________________________________________________
  140. By default, WCUTIL loads all three of the modules.  
  141.  
  142. You can load WCUTIL with a specific module by specifying any one 
  143. of the following keywords on the command line:
  144.  
  145.         UPLOAD - Loads only the forum upload function
  146.         MAIL   - Loads only the mail function (also loads the address 
  147.                 book)
  148.         REQUEST- Loads only the message request function (also 
  149.                 loads the address book)
  150.  
  151. Even if you load WCUTIL with a command line option (and therefore 
  152. initially display only one of the modules) you can always activate the 
  153. other modules by selecting them from the Tools menu.

  156. CAPTURING FORUM ANNOUNCEMENTS
  157. ________________________________________________________________
  158. Code to capture forum announcements has been included in the WCUTIL.TPL
  159. template, but it is, by default, commented out.
  160.  
  161. If you wish to capture forum announcments with every entrance to a
  162. forum, edit WCUTIL.TPL, look for the [GO FORUM] section, and read the
  163. comments.

  172. This is the initial release of WCUTIL.  I suspect that the program will
  173. continue to evolve.  All suggestions are welcome.

  178.         Additional Scripts under the Scripts.Build Option
  179.
