LEGAL STUFFS:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
Shareware License Agreement:
This program is released into the public domain as
shareware. This means that the possessor of this program is
granted a limited license to use this product for an
undefined amount of time. In accordance with this agreement
the owner will not alter any portion of this program or
documentation, excluding phone number data files.
The possessor of this program is permitted to
distribute it under the conditions that the program has not
been altered or tampered with in any way, and all files are
included when distributed. This distribution policy is only
valid for unregistered copies of the program. Under no
conditions may a registered copy be distributed. No money
or service may be charged for this distribution, however
membership fees, etc. are not considered payment for
distribution.
There is no defined time limit on the use of this
program. As part of the agreement for usage of this
program, MacroWare cannot be held responsible for any
damages incurred by the use of this or any other product.
Further, any distribution company is also permitted
to distribute any shareware version of a program, although
MacroWare appreciates a notice from the company informing us
of the distribution price and other information. This would
also allow MacroWare to send the distributing company a disk
or two of out most current shareware programs.
Dial-It is Copyrighted (c) 1992, 1993 by MacroWare

It(tm) are trademarks of MacroWare Software.
REGISTRATION:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
Registration bestows many benefits on the program
user and the programmer. The benefits to the program user
are easy: He or she gains a registered copy, usually
accompanied with free shareware versions of other quality
programs. These registered programs usually contain
addition functions, and in any event are the most current
public release of a program. In addition, you are
automatically placed on a "list". This "list" is not
distributed for any reason, so there's no need to worry
about junk mail, etc. unless you specifically state that it
is your wish that it be distributed, in which case it will
be distributed, and you shall most likely recieve the
benefit of as much junk mail as you desire.
To register, make out a check or money order for
$10.00 to either Dave Carney or Jamie Williams. Complete
the order form included with this package, and mail them
both to:
MacroWare Software
133 Caribou Drive
Youngstown, Ohio 44512-6202
A few notes: 1) If MacroWare must mail to an address
outside of the United States, include an additional $5.00.
Sorry, but even then MacroWare's got one of the least
expensive registrations for programs of its quality. 2) We
do NOT accept credit cards (yet!). 3) Registered copies
are not to be distributed. Discovery of such can result in
legal action or severe taunting. MacroWare further
appreciates any information concerning such distribution.
MacroWare also appreciates any comments or
information concerning discovered bugs or ideas for further
development. MacroWare will not provide any compensation
for these ideas, however your name will appear in the
crediting in the appendix of this document in later updates,
assuming your suggestion is used.
DISTRIBUTION:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
The shareware version of DIAL-IT may be
conditionally distributed. You are encouraged to distribute
this program to others, however all operating files must be
included in unaltered form. Operating files include:
DIALIT.CFG
PRISM.DAT
DIALIT.EXE
DOCUMENT.TXT
REGISTER.TXT
DIALSET.EXE
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
IBM or Compatible
DOS system (5.0 preferable)
Hard Drive preferable
286 or better advisable
PROGRAM OVERVIEW:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
MAIN MENU: You may use the arrow keys to move the
selection bar up and down the menu to highlight your
selection, then press <ENTER> to engage that option.
Pressing the first letter of an option jumps to highlight
that selection. Pressing <ESCAPE> when in the main menu
will exit the menu (although you are prompted first). The
function keys have operations in this part of the program
not available elsewhere.
FUNCTION KEYS [Main Menu]:
──────────────────────────
F1: Help HotCard
F2: MacroHelp
F3: Configuration
F10: About File
See Appendix A (Function Keys) for more details.
MAIN MENU OPTIONS:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
LOAD PHONEBOOK: This option loads a phonebook
previously saved to a file. Dial-It supports a file-pick
routine of a maximum of 18 data files. Move the cursor bar
to highlight the file choice and press <ENTER> to
load/decode.
"F" - Pressing "F" when in the Load Phonebook box
allows you to manually alter the filespec LOAD scans for.
You are prompted for the new filespec, which can consist of
a filespec (*.FON, D*.*, HARVEY.DA*) , or a full path and a
filespec.
SAVE PHONEBOOK: This saves the phonebook in memory
to a data file. Be sure to do this after editing or else
your changes are lost after leaving the program. The
filename can be up to 8 letters. Do not add an extension to
the end of the filename. Note that it will write over a
previous file.
VIEW PHONEBOOK: Views the phonebook currently in
memory, one entry at a time. It starts at entry 1.
Pressing <ENTER> proceeds to the next entry in memory.
Pressing <BACKSPACE> will move to the previous entry.
Pressing <ESCAPE> exits from viewing mode.
"E" - Edit: Allows you to edit your entries.
Editing a blank entry is in effect adding an entry to your
list. Press the number identifying which entry you wish to
modify, and modify it. The following code is listed in the
upper right hand corner:
1. Name
2. Home Phone Number
3. Work Phone Number
4. Address [street]
5. Address [city, state zip code]
6. Company
7. Comment
Special Editing Keys:
Alt-D: Pressing Alt-D deletes all portions of
an entry. You are prompted before elimination to
make sure that wiping the entry out is what you mean
to do.
"D" - Dial: If your modem type is supported, and
Dial-It is properly configured (see Appendix A, F3
Configure), Dial-It will dial the number for you. Obviously,
it checks to make sure if there is something TO
dial...however, Dial-It does not check to make sure that
it is a legitimate phone number.
SEARCH: Allows you to search the phonebook in
memory for a string of text. It need not be any
recognizable word, i.e. "782", "Dave", "u" are all
examples. Case does not matter. The Search routine then
proceeds through all the entries--starting at entry 1--
until it finds a match. It then displays that entry, with
the categories that contain the string highlighted. After
the first one, pressing <ESCAPE> exits, while pressing
<ENTER> continues the search where it left off. If Search
ever checks and finds no match, it will merely return to the
option menu.
PRINT LIST: Prints the information to the printer.
First it asks which categories to print. Then it presents
options for printing, then it prints.
ALPHABETIZE: This orders all entries in memory,
either progressively (forward) or degressively (backward) in
alphabetical ordev. It's recommended you save it
afterwards, else you may forget and *poof*, it's gone when
you exit and you have to order it again.
CLEAR MEMORY: Clears memory of all entries. Be
careful of this one, especially if you have made changes and
not saved them yet.
APPENDIX A: THE FUNCTION KEYS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS:
───────────────────────────────────────────────────
This lists the various function keys and what part they play
in each section of the program. Unless noted otherwise, all
entries apply to the Main Menu only.
F1: Help Hotcard - A quick reference card containing some
basic info and commands for functioning in the Dial-It
environ.
F2: MacroHelp - An in-depth help file for Dial-It.
Actually, an on-line text viewer for the ASCII file
included with Dial-It. Uses up and down arrows, and
page up/page down to navigate. <ESCAPE> exits.
F3: Configure - Allows configuration of certain options.
= Modem - Indicates whether modem exists, which COM
port, baud rate, timer, and other options.
= Sound - Toggles sound On/Off.
= Music - Allows selection of various PC Speaker
musicals. Sound must be on. Shareware versions
only have four or five, whereas registered
versions generally have all nine.
= Security - Allows indication of password, or
cancellation of it.
= Default Phone Filespec - Default filespec for
when loading files.
= Color Configuration - Allows configuration of
text and background colors.
Be sure to save your changes!
F10: About Dial-It - Contains various tidbits about Dial-It
of no real concern to most people, I'm sure. Still, I'd
suggest running it every time you get an update, just to see
what's up.
