  13.                   Methodology for updating your version:   
  14.                  if your version is version 2.645 or after
  15.  
  16. This update methodology assumes that you are updating from ANY earlier 
  17. version of SERVICE PLUS [TM] that has the ability to AUTOMATICALLY back up 
  18. your data when you exit the program. 
  19.  
  20. With version 2.645 or 3.0, the backup procedure is one half manual and one 
  21. half automatic.  To perform a backup on either of these two versions 
  22. requires this two step process.  First, upon your exiting the program, 
  23. indicate that you want to back it up.  At that point, the program has 
  24. created,  'BACKUP.BAT'.  In \SERVICE, please enter this command to then 
  25. begin the backup:
  26.

  30. Let's say that you backup the data on January 15.  the backup procedure will 
  31. create this file:
  32.  
  33.                              0115ACS.ARC
  34.  
  35. The '01' stands for the month, while '15' shows the day.  In this way, the 
  36. backup files will not overwrite each other on the backup disk.  When full, 
  37. the backup procedure will tell you that 'for some reason, the program cannot 
  38. copy over the file to the disk.'  At this point, place a write-protect tab 
  39. onto backup #1, format a second disk, label it ' Backup #2', use it until 
  40. full, then swap the write-protect tab with Backup #1, reformat #1, and use 
  41. it from scratch.
  42.  
  43. By doing this, you will always be alternating back and forth between the two 
  44. backup disks as each becomes full.
  45.  
  46. Make a backup of the data for SERVICE PLUS [TM] by exiting your current 
  47. version of the program and selecting the backup function.  Once out of the 
  48. program, enter 'BACKUP' from your hard drive to place today's current data 
  49. onto a data disk reserved for this purpose.  Place a write-protect tab onto 
  50. that disk and, if space permits, create a second subdirectory: '\ACS'.  Then 
  51. copy EVERYTHING from '\SERVICE' to '\ACS'.   Once done, delete every file in 
  52. '\SERVICE' and then delete the directory entry itself with this command:  
  53.                                RMDIR SERVICE
  54.  
  55.  
  56. Observe the files on your data disk, where the backup up data is kept.   
  57. Let's say the file containing today's backup is: '0520ACS.ARC'  This means 
  58. that you performed the backup on month '05', day '20', or May 20th.  
  59.  
  60. The   first  two  letters  stand for the month,   while  the  last  two 
  61. identify   the   date during the month on which this backup  was  made.  
  62. Let's  say that you see  '0804ACS.ARC' on your data disk.   This  means 
  63. month '8',  day '4', or August 4.  If you saw '1123ACS.ARC',  this file was  
  64. created  on month '11',   day '23',  or   December   23rd.     The purpose  
  65. for this numbering scheme is so that you  can   have  multiple back up files 
  66. on one disk,  space permitting, and yet tell at a  glance which is the most 
  67. recent one.

  69. Take the new version of SERVICE PLUS [TM] and install it onto your hard 
  70. drive as per the instructions in 'GO'.  Once installed, please enter these 3 
  71. commands \SERVICE:
  72.  
  73.    NEW2REAL    <=========== you type this, follow by 'Enter'
  74.              ARCE A:0520ACS.ARC /R <======== Please enter this
  75.                  DEL NAJ*.DBF <========= Please enter this
  76.  
  77. This will take all of your data from the most recent backup and restore it 
  78. to your hard drive.
  79.  
  80. If you do not observe  NEW2REAL.BAT in \SERVICE, then please enter these 
  81. commands instead:
  82.  
  83.              ARCE A:0520ACS.ARC /R <======== Please enter this
  84.                  DEL NAJ*.DBF <========= Please enter this
  85.    DEL *.NTX   <=========== you type this, follow by 'Enter'
  86.    DEL *.MEM   <=========== you type this, follow by 'Enter'

  89. Then execute 'GO' from your subdirectory and, after the initial installation 
  90. process, you should be greeted as a Registered User.  If not, repeat this 
  91. entire process ONCE. If you are still not greeted as Registered, then call 
  92. me.

  94. Retain the subdirectory '\ACS' for a few days until you are certain that the 
  95. upgrade in '\SERVICE' was successful.  Once you are satisfied of that, 
  96. delete everything in '\ACS'.

  99.             Alternate Method if you cannot create a good backup:
  100.  
  101. Copy all files ending in the letters 'DBF' and 'DBT', if any, to a floppy 
  102. disk on drive A.  Place a write protect tab on that disk.  This is now your 
  103. 'Backup' disk.  If you have a subdirectory called '\SERVICE', delete 
  104. everything in that directory and then the directory itself with this 
  105. command:
  106.                                RMDIR SERVICE
  107.  
  108. Take the new version of SERVICE PLUS [TM] and install it onto your hard 
  109. drive as per the instructions in 'GO. Upon completion of these installation 
  110. instructions, while still in \SERVICE, please enter:
  111.  
  112.  
  113.                                COPY A:*.DBF
  114.                                COPY A:*.DBT  [if any]
  115.                  DEL NAJ*.DBF <========= Please enter this
  116.    DEL *.NTX   <=========== you type this, follow by 'Enter'
  117.    DEL *.MEM   <=========== you type this, follow by 'Enter'
  118.  
  119. This will take all of your data from the most recent backup and restore it 
  120. to your hard drive.
