PCwindow is a "hidden" utility program which remains resident in RAM, as an
extension of DOS, until the system is re-booted. This program provides the user
with 8 online hidden utility functions. There are 5 windows available for access
to the functions. Each of the functions or windows can be accessed by entering
a combination of two keys. The keys used to display the windows and access the
functions are:
1) ALT-1 : Display the Time Window.
2) ALT-2 : Start the Elapse Timer. (The Time Window need not be
active for this function)
3) ALT-3 : Calculate Split Time. (The Time Window need not be
active for this function)
4) ALT-4 : Stop Elapse Timer. (The Time Window need not be
active for this function)
5) ALT-5 : Set Alarm. (The Time Window must be
active for this function)
6) ALT-5 : Set Color On/Off (The Help Window must be
active for this function)
7) ALT-6 : Display ASCII Table Window.
8) ALT-7 : Display NOTE PAD Window.
9) ALT-8 : Display PRINTER SETUP Window.
10) ALT-0 : Display HELP Window.
The following is a brief description of the windows and functions:
A) Time Window - (ALT-1)
Displays the Elapse Time, Split Time, Alarm Time, current
system date, and current system time.
B) Start Elapse Timer - (ALT-2)
This function starts or re-starts the Elapse timer which
has the format of HH:MM:SS.
C) Calculate Split Time - (ALT-3)
This function will calculate the Split time from the Elapse
timer in the format of HH:MM:SS.
D) Stop Elapse Timer - (ALT-4)
This function will stop the Elapse timer.
E) Set Alarm Time - (ALT-5)
This function will allow the user to set an Alarm time from
the Time Display Window. The Alarm time is in the format of
HH:MM:SS. If the Alarm time has been set a musical note
symbol will be displayed to the right of the Alarm time.
F) Set Color On/Off - (ALT-5)
This function will allow the user to turn PCwindow's color
off if a color card with a black & white monitor is being used.
G) Display ASCII Table Window - (ALT-6)
This function displays a page of an ASCII table with ASCII,
hex, display, and control values. The ASCII table can be
scrolled by using the PgUp, PgDn, Home, and End keys.
H) Display NOTE PAD Window - (ALT-7)
This function displays the NOTE PAD window and allows the
user to enter information. There are several sub-functions
available within the NOTE PAD Window.
ALT-R : Read an existing NOTE PAD file.
The user is prompted for a file name to be read.
ALT-W : Create a new NOTE PAD file.
The user is prompted for the file name to be created.
ESC key : This will exit the user from the file name prompt.
ALT-T : This will embed the current system TIME into the
text at the location of the cursor.
ALT-D : This will embed the current system DATE into the

I) Printer Window - (ALT-8)
This function will allow the user to send commands to
several printers to do line feeds, form feeds, set up
character sets, print size, quality, etc.
J) Help Window - (ALT-0)
This function will display a Help window showing the
available functions.
When one of the above functions is invoked, the application currently
executing will be interrupted. When the last Window is removed from the screen
the application will regain control. Multiple Windows may appear on the screen
at the same time, but only one of any type window may be displayed. Windows are
removed from the screen in reverse order from which they were invoked.
PCwindow was written in assembler and traps the keyboard input. Therefore,
PCwindow may not work with other applications which trap the keyboard input.
PCwindow is designed to allow additional resident routines to be added.
PCwindow includes common routines for "windowing" and direct video memory I/O.

^C^1IF THIS PROGRAM TURNS YOU ON...
If you like the concept of memory-resident utility programs (or "TSR's"
[terminate-and-stay-resident] to insiders in the PC field), there are many such
things on the market that you might find useful. One of the most popular is
^1SideKick^0 from Borland International, the makers of Turbo Pascal. It
includes a full-screen text editor, a phone directory, a telephone dialer, a
calendar and datebook, a calculator, and more. SideKick was named InfoWorld's
software product of the year a few years ago, and continues to be highly
popular.
A new version, ^1SideKick Plus^0, is even better. It has these features:
^1Outlook: The Outline Processor^0 - Create outlines with automatic numbering,
tree charts, and table of contents.
^1The File Manager^0 - Extended DOS file and directory management.
^1The Calculator^0 - Actually four calculators: business, scientific, programmer,
and formula
^1The Clipboard^0 - lets you cut and paste parts of files and other applications
^1The Time Planner^0 - helps you schedule appointments, with a reminder alarm
^1The Notepad^0 - lets you edit up to nine documents at once
^1The ASCII Table^0 - find and paste special characters easily
EMS and extended memory is supported, so you can load it there and keep your
640K main memory free for applications.
SideKick Plus ordinarily lists at $199.95, but it is available from us at a
20% discount, at $159.95. The plain-old Sidekick can be purchased for $67.95,
20% off from the $84.95 list. Neither program is copy-protected. Call us toll
free at (800) 831-2694 to place your credit card order now, or send a check or
money order to Softdisk, Inc., PO Box 30008, Shreveport, LA 71130-0008.
