- Take a dye solution and put it into the jug with measurements on the side. Fill the
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- jug up to 500mls. Identify one primary position on your triangle and pour 200mls of
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- dye into this first container. Into the next two containers, pour 100mls into each.
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- These are the containers on either side of the primary position. One in each
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- direction, left and right. Now pour 50mls into each of the next two containers on
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- either side. You will have used all of your dye. If you don't have a container that
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- measures in millilitres you can use ounces. I have simply taken a number and
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- doubled it twice. So start with 2 fluid ounces for the last position, 4 fluid ounces for
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- the middle position and 8 fluid ounces for the primary position. Remembering that
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- there are two middle and two last positions you will need to dilute the dye to 20
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- fluid ounces to achieve the same ratios.
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- Take the next dye concentrate and dilute to the correct amount, either 500mls or 20
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- fluid ounces, depending on which measuring system you are working with. Starting
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- from the next primary position, repeat the process from above, pouring in the
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- appropriate amount of dye solution into each container. This is where you will start
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- to see the colours mixing as you pour the second colour dye over the first. When you
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- have finished adding the second colour, you will have two sides of the triangle with
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- a single colour, one side with two colours and one point only with white fabric.
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- Now proceed to the last colour and repeat the process again, starting at the white
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- point. You will see the secondary colours starting to form as you add the last colour.
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- When all of the containers have dye added, use a stirring stick to push the fabric into
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- the dye so that there will be no white bits left. Doing it this way, you will end up with
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- some wonderful mottle colours, which will show a good variance in the colours. If
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- you wanted smoother colours, add the dye to the containers first and then add the
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- fabric once the colours are mixed. If you find that there isn't enough liquid to wet
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- the fabric, add a little warm water. If you are using plastic bags, simply seal the bag
- --- RECORDSEPARATOR ---
- and give a good squish.
