The DSA is an executive agency of the Department for Transport,
Local Government and the Regions (DTLR).  The DSA is the highest
authority on driving in Britain.  Their advice is sought and respected
worldwide.

The DSA aims are:
 - establishing and developing high standards and best practice in driving and riding on the road.
 - ensuring high standards of instruction for different types of driver and rider
 - conducting the statutory theory and practical tests efficiently, fairly and consistently across the country
 - providing a centre of excellence for driver training and driving standards
 - developing a range of publications and other publicity material designed to promote safe driving for life

>2 - THE  DRIVERS  AND  VEHICLE  LICENSING  AGENCY (DVLA)

Driving licences are issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).
The DVLA also keep all records of car ownership. By law, the vehicle registration
document,  which details your car's make and model,  engine size and number
as well as the owner's name and address is registered and made an official
document by the DVLA.

If you have any medical condition that may affect your ability to drive safely,
the DVLA must be notified,  this is also a legal requirement.

>3 - DRIVING  INSTRUCTOR'S  ASSOCIATION (DIA)

The DIA is now the largest trade association in the UK for professional driving
instructors and road safety specialists.  Membership is open to approved driving
instructors,  those training for the ADI qualification and anyone with a professional
interest in road safety.

The DIA is committed to improving standards of driver education and to promoting road safety,  while working
to promote the welfare and business interests of professional driving instructors.

>4 - THE ADI FEDERATION
(The National Federation of Driving Instructors)
Established in January 1997, this non-profit organisation is led by a committee
of five active ADIs (Approved Driving Instructors).

The federation has become well established an a recognised authority on resolving
problems encountered by the ADI members.

The federation gives maximum support to each of it's individual members,  no matter
what their problem or concern is.  The federation acts as a voice in the industry
on behalf of it's members and works closely along side the DSA and is actively
involved in consultative papers and responses to them.

The federation has a bi-monthly News update.

>5 - THE  ASSOCIATION  OF  PROFESSIONAL  DRIVING  INSTRUCTORS (APDI)
The association is set up as an independent source of information,  resources, support
and advice to aid professional driving instructors across the industry such as:
ADIs,  LGV,  PCV,  Motorcycle,  Fleet,  Advanced and Road Safety.

The association's mission is to make a positive difference to the transport industry
and road safety by providing professional up to date information and advice to it's
members,  and by assisting them in identifying appropriate opportunities for their
Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

>6 - MOTOR SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION (MSA)
The Motor Schools Association of Great Britain Ltd was formed in March 1935.
The principal aims of the association are:
 - To keep members informed of any matters of interest to them
 - To represent the views of members to Government, its departments and agencies
 - To provide services that will be of benefit to members
 - To set standards of professional and ethical behaviour for teachers of driving

Full membership is reserved for DSA approved driving instructors.  However, trainee
driving instructors,  proprietors of driving schools and other interested parties
may also join,  but are not allowed to vote.

>7 - THE  AUTOMOBILE  ASSOCIATION
Originally,  a group of motoring enthusiasts met at the Trocadero restaurant
in London's West End to form the Automobile Association -- a body initially
intended to help motorists avoid police speed traps.  As motoring became
more popular,  so did the AA -- 100 members in 1905 grew to 83,000 by 1914.

The AA Roadwatch,  Europe's biggest traffic broadcaster,  came into being in
1973 with the advent of commercial radio in the UK.  Fast and accurate collation
of road and traffic information is universally recognised as key to the future of
motoring, and in 1997,  the AA won the first telematics contract in the UK to
provide in-car breakdown,  route-guidance,  accident and traffic information.

In 1992, the AA Driving School was launched.  It is the only national body to
employ fully qualified instructors and today employs more than 1,000 franchises.
In November 1994 AA membership reached a record 8 million.  Today it stands
at 9.5 million, of whom 4.4 million are personal members.
