There are different categories of vehicle. For example, there is a large goods vehicles category,
a minibus category, a cars category, and many more. You will need to apply for a licence that covers
the categories you wish to drive in. Definitions of different types of vehicles can be found in the
D100 leaflet titled - What you need to know about Driver Licensing, which is available at Post Offices.

When you apply for a licence you must declare any health and eyesight issues that may affect your
driving ability. This is a legal requirement. Examples of health conditions in question are listed in leaflet
D100, obtainable from the Post Office. If there is any doubt as to whether a condition should be reported,
you are advised to consult your family doctor.

Eyesight - The test is to be able to read correctly a vehicle number plate at a distance of 67 feet.
Newer number plates with a narrower font should be read correctly from a distance of 66 feet.
If you need glasses to read the number plates, then they must be worn every time you drive.
It is a criminal offence to drive if you cannot meet the required standard.

Other conditions include - Epilepsy, giddiness, faintings, disabilities, Parkinson's disease, diabetes,
alcoholism, drug addictions and on-going conditions requiring prescribed medicines.

Tiredness or illness - can greatly impair the ability to drive and can often lead to (even fatal) accidents.

Emotional upsets - such as family arguments, family bereavements and even work stress can lead to
rash decisions, impatience and bad driving manners. Any of these can quickly lead to an accident.
