OCR: Fog itself doesn't claim lives. The general standard of driving in fog results in death and injury which could be avoided. Rear fog lights are obligatory on cars used on or after April 1st 1980. If one light is fitted, it must be placed on the offside. If two lights are fitted, they must be placed symmetrically. Front fog lights are an option and must also be symmetrically placed, if two are fitted. Use fog lights when visibility is reduced to 100 metres or 328 feet or less, as they may dazzle or distract drivers. You should switch them off as soon as the visibility improves. Fog Lights Fog lights are deliberately KNSIFNJ bright and can dazzle other road users. Some other points concerning fog lights are: > they only come on with sidelights or the headlights > occasional use means the switch is on the dashboard > their brightness may make brake lights inconspicuous
