OCR: Keep an eye on the fuel gauge on your instrument panel, and check it at the start of a journey, remembering it may not be accurate or completely reliable. Do not let the fuel in your tank run too low as this may cause such problems as: > tank sediment can cause a fuel pipe blockage > the petrol pump can be damaged by tank sediment > the carburettor fine fuel jets can become blocked > fuel starvation to the engine can cause loss of power Some vehicles have a low-fuel indicator light. This will flash when the fuel level is low and stay on when empty. If making a long journey involving motorways, make sure you have enough fuel to avoid run- ning out between service areas. If you intend to carry spare fuel, it should be in an approved container, as anything else is both dangerous and illegal. When filling up with new fuel: > Look carefully at the fuel pump, is it the right type? > Petrol is for petrol engines, diesel is for diesel types > The wrong grade of fuel could damage the car engine
