OCR: Headlights are used not only at night, but also in low lighting conditions such as rain, mist, fog, smoke, snow, spray, at dawn and dusk, during storms and whenever extra light is needed to see the way and for others to see you. Lighting controls on many vehicles are on a stalk at the side of the steering column and include a 3 position switch which gives these conditions: all lighting off; sidelights, rear and number-plate lights on; and headlights, full or dipped on. Headlights On/off Full/Dipped Beam There is a real need to be careful in low-lighting because: > It can be difficult to judge speed and distances > Cyclists and vulnerable road users are harder to see Headlights come with a dipped beam facility which saves you from dazzling yourself in fog and others at night time. Regulations require that lights and reflectors must be kept clean and in good working order.
