#PRE - DRIVE CHECKS
Before we start the engine, we should complete
the six standard pre-drive safety checks.
PRE - DRIVE CHECK 1
First check is to ensure the car doors are shut. They
must be checked, because if they are accidentally
opened when the car is moving, they would cause a
serious accident such as knocking down a cyclist.
After you click the Ok button you will see an open
door Icon appear. Click on it with the mouse cursor
and you will see the doors are shut.
Start this check by clicking the Ok button.
#PRE - DRIVE CHECK 2
The next pre-drive check is your seat position. This is
important for safe driving and for your own comfort
to minimise arm and leg strain and to ensure that you
have the best all-round view.
To adjust the driving seat back or forward just click
either the forward-arrow or back-arrow icons. Please
ensure that you can see the speedometer. The head
restraint is designed to protect against whiplash
and should be adjusted to fit close to the back of
the head and should be raised up to eye-level.
Now click the Ok button, and set the Driver's seat.
#PRE - DRIVE CHECK 3
The next check is for the car safety seat belts.
By law, and for your own safety, you must wear a
locked and secure seat belt at all times.
After you click the Ok button you will see a picture of
a loose seat-belt appear. Click this picture and you
will see that the seat-belt becomes locked and secure.
Before securing the seat belt, you should adjust
the seat position for maximum comfort and correct
reach of the steering wheel and foot pedals.
Start this check by clicking the Ok button.
#PRE - DRIVE CHECK 4
A large part of the skill of safe driving is to maintain a
good all round the car observation.
Apart from turning the head round in either direction,
the mirrors are vital for your observations.
The rear mirror and two side mirrors are used all of
the time and so should be kept clean and properly
aligned to give the best rear view of traffic.
To adjust the mirrors, click on each of the mirror
images.
#PRE - DRIVE CHECK 6
Before you start the engine you should check that
the gear lever is set in neutral. When it is placed in
neutral, the lever moves side-to-side easily.
This will ensure that the engine is disconnected from
the wheels and therefore is safe to start.
After clicking the Ok button you will see a picture of
the gear lever. Place the mouse cursor over the gear
lever and press the left mouse button down. You will
then see that the car is in neutral gear.
Start the check by clicking the Ok button.
#PRE - DRIVE CHECK 5
You should also check that the handbrake is fully on.
Make sure that the lever is in the up position with it's
button out. This secures the stationary car and stops
it rolling on inclines.
After clicking the Ok button you will see a picture of
the handbrake. Click on the handbrake picture and you
will then see that the lever is set on.
Start this check by clicking the Ok button.
#CHECKS COMPLETED
These six standard pre-drive checks will be completed
at the beginning of every driving session.
They will also be recalled at various session-starting
points during the driving program - to refresh your
memory.
You are encouraged to get into the habit of doing them
every time you get into the car. They are included for
your safety and the safety of your passengers.
Please review them again by viewing the video.
Click the Ok button to continue to the session start
