  1. #PRE - DRIVE  CHECKS
  2. Before we start the engine, we should complete
  3. the six standard pre-drive safety checks.
  4.  
  5. PRE - DRIVE  CHECK  1
  6. First check is to ensure the car doors are shut. They
  7. must be checked, because if they are accidentally
  8. opened when the car is moving, they would cause a
  9. serious accident such as knocking down a cyclist.
  10.  
  11. After you click the Ok button you will see an open
  12. door Icon appear. Click on it with the mouse cursor
  13. and you will see the doors are shut.
  14.  
  15. Start this check by clicking the Ok button.
  16. #PRE - DRIVE  CHECK  2
  17. The next pre-drive check is your seat position. This is
  18. important for safe driving and for your own comfort
  19. to minimise arm and leg strain and to ensure that you
  20. have the best all-round view.
  21.  
  22. To adjust the driving seat back or forward just click
  23. either the forward-arrow or back-arrow icons. Please
  24. ensure that you can see the speedometer.  The head
  25. restraint is designed to protect against whiplash
  26. and should be adjusted to fit close to the back of
  27. the head and should be raised up to eye-level.

  29. Now click the Ok button, and set the Driver's seat.

  31. The next check is for the car safety seat belts.
  32. By law, and for your own safety, you must wear a
  33. locked and secure seat belt at all times.
  34.  
  35. After you click the Ok button you will see a picture of
  36. a loose seat-belt appear.  Click this picture and you
  37. will see that the seat-belt becomes locked and secure.
  38.  
  39. Before securing the seat belt,  you should adjust
  40. the seat position for maximum comfort and correct
  41. reach of the steering wheel and foot pedals.

  44. Start this check by clicking the Ok button.
  45. #PRE - DRIVE  CHECK  4
  46. A large part of the skill of safe driving is to maintain a
  47. good all round the car observation.
  48.  
  49. Apart from turning the head round in either direction,
  50. the mirrors are vital for your observations.
  51.  
  52. The rear mirror and two side mirrors are used all of
  53. the time and so should be kept clean and properly
  54. aligned to give the best rear view of traffic.

  56. To adjust the mirrors, click on each of the mirror
  57. images.
  58. #PRE - DRIVE  CHECK  6
  59. Before you start the engine you should check that
  60. the gear lever is set in neutral. When it is placed in
  61. neutral,  the lever moves side-to-side easily.
  62.  
  63. This will ensure that the engine is disconnected from
  64. the wheels and therefore is safe to start.
  65.  
  66. After clicking the Ok button you will see a picture of
  67. the gear lever. Place the mouse cursor over the gear
  68. lever and press the left mouse button down. You will
  69. then see that the car is in neutral gear.

  71. Start the check by clicking the Ok button.

  73. You should also check that the handbrake is fully on.

  75. Make sure that the lever is in the up position with it's
  76. button out. This secures the stationary car and stops
  77. it rolling on inclines.

  79. After clicking the Ok button you will see a picture of
  80. the handbrake. Click on the handbrake picture and you
  81. will then see that the lever is set on.

  83. Start this check by clicking the Ok button.
  84. #CHECKS  COMPLETED
  85. These six standard pre-drive checks will be completed
  86. at the beginning of every driving session.

  88. They will also be recalled at various session-starting
  89. points during the driving program - to refresh your
  90. memory.

  92. You are encouraged to get into the habit of doing them
  93. every time you get into the car. They are included for
  94. your safety and the safety of your passengers.
