DOOM Utilities Version 0.1 Copyright (c) 1994 Bill Kirby
This is a very preliminary version of DOOM Utilities. It will
currently only allow you to view the maps. It should work with
all version of DOOM. DOOM Utilities is FREEWARE. Distribute it
to everyone everywhere. All I ask is that you not modify it in
any way or charge money for it.
INSTALLATION
============
To install it, make a new subdirectory and copy the contents of
the DMUTIL01.ZIP file into it. DOOM Utilities does not need to be
installed into the same directory where DOOM is installed. The
file DOOMUTIL.INI is the configuration file what is used by DOOM
Utilities to locate the DOOM files. There are four items in this
file that can be modified:
doompath - points to the directory where DOOM is installed
(must have a trailing backslash)
wadfilename - name of .WAD file to use. This will change depending
on whether you have the shareware or commercial game
episode - default episode to view when DOOM Utilities starts up
level - default level to view when DOOM Utilities starts up
USING DOOM UTILITIES
====================
The screen is divided into two parts. The left is the map view, the
right is a control panel. There are several buttons on the control
panel:
QUIT - quit to DOS
ZIN - Zoom in
ZOUT - Zoom out
UP - Pan up
DOWN - Pan down
LEFT - Pan left
RIGHT - Pan right
EP++ - switch to next episode
EP-- - switch to previous episode
LV++ - switch to next map
LV-- - switch to previous map
The map view is similar to the automap in the game. The green arrows
indicate objects. As far as the different colors go, the only thing
that really means anything right now is purple=secret.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
===============
I would like to thank ID for making an outstanding game. And for
their cool attitude towards these type of add-on utilities. I
encourage everyone to buy the registered version of DOOM, it's
well worth the money and everyone at ID deserves to get filthy
rich from their creation.
If you have comments or suggestions, you can send them to me via
e-mail at bkirby@netcom.com. After the large amount of e-mail
I recieved in response to my Wolf3D editors, I am not going to
promise a personal response to everyone who writes. As common
questions start to appear, I'll create a FAQ to answer them.
Enjoy!
