A special feature of SKI-CD, it allows you to make selections on the screen and it will search for the ski areas that meet the criteria you have specified. |"DIRECTORY Note: The following describes what you will find when you select a ski area that has in-depth information available (indicated by a diamond beside the name). Areas without a diamond will typically have complete statistical information only.
The Directory lists all available options to explore within a specific area. Each of the 11 topics is represented by a button with its name and representative graphic. Topics covered are: General Overview, Trail Info, Lodging, Food, Shopping, Skier Services, Other Services, Non-Skiing Activities, Special Events, How To Get There, Summer/Fall Activities. Each of these is discussed below.
|"**General Overview General Overview
Here we get a quick overview of the ski resort, see photographs and easily turn to other areas of interest, such as statistics, history and area map. The name of the ski area you are visiting will always appear on the page header, so you will always know where you are. At the end of every ski area description, you will find the complete mailing address and important telephone numbers to call for information and/or reservations. The Video controls allow you to step back/rewind, pause, play, and step forward/fast forward anytime you would like.
Direct Dial Button
Selecting this button allows you to directly dial the ski area to obtain more information or to make a reservation. You must have a fax modem installed in order to take advantage of this feature.

Please see the *Trail Rating and *Trail Type sections below for important information. You may sort the information by clicking on the title button.
*Trail Rating
As mentioned above, clicking on Rating will sort the trails in order of difficulty from easiest to most difficult. Easier corresponds to a green circle designation on a trail map, More Difficult corresponds to a blue square, Most Difficult corresponds to a black diamond, and Experts Only corresponds to a double black diamond designation. It is important to note that some areas use additional or different ratings to designate their trails; and you cannot compare trail ratings between areas but only within a given ski area.
*Trail Type
The following is the definition of each type of trail mentioned in this program. Groomed - Regularly groomed by the ski area, but does not signify a specific interval of time, i.e., nightly, so use caution. Ungroomed - Rarely if ever groomed by the ski area. Moguls - Bump runs that may or may not be groomed. Bowl - Wide open space which may or may not be groomed. Trees - Trail with trees interspersed, generally for the advanced skier.
Lifts Button
The Lifts Button located at the bottom of the Trails Summary page provides you with a list of lifts by Name, Type (Double Chair, Triple Chair, etc.), Ride Time, and Vertical (these numbers may be a rough estimate in feet). Ride Time is an estimate of the time it takes from the actual embarkation to the disembarkation under "ideal" conditions. Weather and other conditions affect the speed at which a lift may operate. Clicking on the title button allows you to sort: Name (alphabetically), Type (alphabetically), Ride Time (descending order) and Vertical (descending order).

Color Shifts
If you are experiencing color shifts between screens, and you have a video card capable of displaying more than 256 colors (8-bit), change your Windows video driver to at least 15-bit.
Hour Glass appears to be stuck
If you double-click on a button, or a pop-up menu (where a single click would have done the job) the computer may be trying to execute the second click as a separate command which may not exist. (You may experience this when you try to select a state from the regional maps and you double-click rather that just use a single click.) Move the Hour Glass to Return Arrow Button and click on it once. This will take you back to the previous screen so that you can try again with one click. If for some reason this does not work, hold down the Ctrl, Atl and Del keys on your keyboard at the same time. Windows may then give you a message indicating that Toolbook has stopped responding. Press return to get back to the Windows Program Manager. (We suggest that you reboot Windows again at this point and then select SKI-CD icon again.)
Sound
If you are not getting any sound, check the following:
* Are your speakers plugged in?
* Is the volume turned up?
* Is your sound card active?
Video
You may have too many other programs open or not enough memory. Close out programs you do not need and restart SKI-CD. If the problem persists, reboot Windows and restart SKI-CD, since RAM may be fragmented.
If the problem persists, you may have a version of the Multimedia Player which is incompatible with SKI-CD. You may want to download the Multimedia Player on the CD-ROM to your computer.
