Title: Borders: Creating Graphics Boxes in Headers
Product: WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS
Number: 1013-10/93
Problem
You need to create a full-page border on multiple pages, but do
not want to manually create a border on every page.
Concept The Header feature lets you repeat text or a graphic on
multiple pages of your document. When you create a graphics box
for a figure, WordPerfect places a line around the box. You can
customize this line so it will serve as a border for the whole
page. Using a header with a graphics box provides a border on
every page of your document.
Solution
Create a header, then create a graphics box in the header.
1 Press Home, Home, then Up Arrow to move the cursor to the
top of the document.
2 Press Format (Shift+F8).
3 Choose Page (2), then Headers (3), Header A (1), and Every
Page (2) to create a header that will appear on every page
of your document.
You are now in the Header A editing screen.
4 Press Graphics (Alt+F9).
5 Choose Figure (1), Options (4), then Outside Border Space
(2).
6 Type 0 and press Enter for all four Outside Border Space
options. Changing these settings to 0 will allow the
graphics box to be the largest possible size when it is
created.
7 Press Exit (F7) to exit the Options: Figure screen.
Now you are ready to create the graphics box. You are back in
the Header A editing screen.
8 Press Graphics (Alt+F9). Choose Figure (1), then Create
(1).
You are now in the Definition: Figure screen.
9 Choose Anchor Type (4), then choose Page (2). Press Enter
when you are prompted for the Number of pages to skip,
because you want the border on every page.
10 Choose Vertical Position (5), then Set Position (5). Type
.5 and press Enter to offset the graphics box .5" from the
top of each page.
11 Choose Horizontal Position (6) then Set Position (3). Type
.5 and press Enter to offset the graphics box .5" from the
left of every page.
12 Choose Size (7), then Set Both (3). Type 7.5 and press
Enter for the Width; then type 10 and press Enter for the
Height. WordPrfect may adjust these dimensions down to the
largest sizes possible, such as 9.87" instead of 10", to
accommodate your printer's minimum border allowance.
The sides of the box will now be one inch narrower and shorter
than the sides of an 8.5" by 11" page. Because you set the
Outside Border Space to 0, your border will be drawn on this
perimeter.
13 Choose Wrap Text Around Box (8), then type N for No so the
text in your document can be placed inside the border.
14 Press F7 three times to return to the document editing
screen.
You can now create the body of your document.
To view the border you have created:
1 Press Print (Shift+F7), then View Document (6).
