GET WILDCAT!
I guess the first thing that you need to have onhand
is the Mustang Wildcat! Software to run the program
after you get everything else set up! You have to
decide whether you want to have just one node or
phone line or two or more lines or nodes. Then you
need to dig down deep in your pockets and get that
all set up with the phone company. There is an
option in the Wildcat multi-line program for you to
have just one line and have the call roll-over to a
second number if you don't want to publicize two
numbers.
After you decide whether you want a single line
program or a multi-line program you need to contact
Wildcat either by writing to them or calling them.
If you choose to call have a major credit card ready
to finalize the purchase. You can write:
MUSTANG SOFTWARE, INC
PO. Box 2264
Bakersfield, CA 93303
or call:
(805)873-2500 (Sales Office)
Tell them your situation and ask them what kind of
program you should get. The single line is obvious.
But there are some options in the multi-line.
There is a public Mustang BBS that is handy for
downloading the latest everything from MSI and the
modem number for that is: (805)873-2400.
One other thing: if you plan on Multi-tasking the
board. That is running the board in the background
while you use the computer for other programs
simultaneously, you need to decide what kind of
multi-tasking program you are going to use. If you
have the right hardware (discussed later) you can use
either DesqView or even Windows 3.1. They both have
multi-tasking capabilities. But depending on the
modem speed you are using etc. you will have more or
less success using this option.
You will of course want to get the latest version of
Wildcat! as of this writing it is version 3.90. It
has many exciting features for both the user and the
sysop. And this is the first version to support RIP
- Remote Imaging Protocol - which means Wildcat now
has VGA graphics and mouse support! A special
independent terminal program is needed to receive the
RIP - either a single terminal program called RIP
Term.... or the latest version of QModemPro (1.51). A
drawing program called RIP Draw is needed also at
additional cost to make your own customized RIP
screens for your board. A more expensive, more
technical version of this program is also available
called RIP PAINT. You may contact Telegrafix
Communications Inc at 16458 Bolsa Chica #15,
Huntington Beach, CA 92649-9948 or call:
(714)846-4179 voice or FAX (714)846-4189.
