MULTITASKING
One final word. Most of us sysops have only one
computer to sacrifice for the cause! and most of us
have a lot of personal work that we would also like
to so it is imperative that we find a suitable
multitaksking program to run, so that we can run the
board in the background, while we conduct our own
business in the foreground.
DESQVIEW is such a multitasking program. As well as
Windows.
DESQVIEW I don't know anything about, but Windows I
do run with my Wildcat! When I was running on a 2400
baud modem I had no problem multitasking. There was
no lagging on the system, meaning both programs were
running at full speed. But with the advent of my
14.4K modem, I needed to get a special comm driver to
compensate for the higher speed in the modem, but so
far it has not proven functional for me. When I
multitask there is a lot of "jerking" motion in both
the background and foreground, and the users were
really compalining. So now, I have to shut the board
off when I want to use the computer, like for writing
this book. They are beginning to complain now, about
not being able to get through at all. So, either
way, we all lose! I am certain though that sometime
in the near future, the situation will be rectified,
as I am sure I am not the only one with the problem.
I am sure that perhaps version 4.0 of Wildcat will be
totally Windows compatible! In the meantime, I just
have to type really fast, so I can turn the board
back on!
