GET A MAIL DOOR
A good feature of Wildcat is that it comes with the
TOMCAT Mail Door Program already installed. This is
a highly recommendable option for your callers so
they can download messages in conferences and then
take off-line time to respond, then upload the
replies in a subsequent call. The whole thing takes
about 2 minutes each direction. I personally break
into chat and recommend to users who sit there for 40
minutes and do nothing but read messages and reply to
a few of them that they use this feature so that the
board will not be tied up with this unnecessary
waste of time. Most understand and agree to try out
the door.
Once they get the file in their systems they need a
mail reader program to run the .QWK file, and to
prepare the .REP file to send back. I used "Silly
Little Mail Reader" (that's the honest to gosh name
of it) for the longest time, until got Q-Modem Pro
Comm Program which has an OLX built right in. This
way I can do the whole works without leaving QMP.
Either way. It is a highly recommended feature.
SLMR is available on my BBS: TOWN SQUARE BBS
804-625-0728.
Speaking of Com Programs. With the advent of the new
RIP program ...Remote Image Protocol...where VGA
Graphic with mouse support can be sent from host to
terminal it is advantageous at this point to have a
QMODEM PRO V.1.0 which can be upgraded to V.1.5 which
supports RIP using QMPRO150.EXE. A RIP Term Program
is also available as FREEWARE called RIPTM151.EXE.
This is a terminal program designed especially for
RIP.
Both of these files: QMPRO150.EXE and RIPTM151.EXE
are available on my board. The first one though is a
950K file....better to have a 14.4K modem to d/l this
one.
