(Gofer-Wildcat! Config)
Here are some sample files to help you set-up Gofer to work with
Wildcat! 3.xx. The information provided here assumes you're already
familiar with Wildcat! and Gofer, and is mainly to provide help in
two areas:
1. Getting the files into the Wildcat! database
2. Notifying the users that the Gofer files have arrived
The method described here may not be the best method available, but
it works on my system and requires the addition of only two small
utilities that should be available on most BBS's. They are:
ArcMail v3.02 (c) System Enhancement Associates
Mod's by Chris Anderson FidoNet 1:104/114
Arc v5.32 (c) System Enhancement Associates
Only required if using the ArcMail.Cfg listed here.
The basic idea behind automating Gofer and Wildcat! is that every step
must be done in a certain order so that when a user reads the message
notifying them of the arrived Gofer file, the file must be available
for download. This set-up uses FrontDoor as the mailer program, but
any mailer program should work. The following is the processing order.
1. Mailer exits to Run.Bat upon receipt of files.
2. Run Gofer Burrow to process files and create user massages. Gofer
will put the files into the directory you define, and it should be
your BBS Gofer Files area.
3. Run ArcMail3 to create a mail packet addressed to your system
containing the Gofer user message. By putting the message into
a packet, Wildmail can toss the message into the Wildcat! netmail
area.
4. Run any utilities that will change the file size (EG: Stripping
comments, adding comments, virus scanning etc) because you don't
want to change the file size after the file is added to the WC
file database.
5. Run WCFile to add the new files to the Wildcat! database using the
file listing created by Gofer.
6. Run Wildmail to toss the netmail messages into the Wildcat! netmail
message area.
You don't have to run all the steps every time, but if you split them up
make sure you run steps 1 & 2 together, and steps 5 & 6 together. Also
always make sure 5 & 6 run AFTER 1 & 2. An example would be where you run
steps 1 & 2 upon every receipt of mail, but only run 5 & 6 once a day to
make the Gofer files available to your callers.
The files included here are documented and should be all you need to get
Gofer automated on a Wildcat! BBS.
DISCLAIMER: Please back-up your system before attempting to try out any
of the suggestions here. I will not be responsible for any
loss of data, or damage to your system resulting from the
use of the files or utilities listed here.
