FrontDoor & Wildcat!
If you would like to install FrontDoor in a Wildcat! system, just follow
these easy steps and you will be up and running in less than two hours.
First off, you will need the following files or you are dead in the water.
FD202.ZIP FrontDoor Mailer
WM301_1.ZIP Wildmail Tosser (3 files)
WM301_2.ZIP
WM301_3.ZIP
EDITNL.ZIP Edit Nodelist
WNODE151.ZIP Compiles Nodelist to Wildcat
NODEUP.EXE Brings Node back on line (milti-node)
NODELIST.xxx Current FidoNet node list
PKZIP.EXE Archiver
PKUNZIP.EXE " "
PKUNPAK.EXE " "
PAK.EXE " "
ARJ.EXE " "
LHARC.EXE " "
ZOO.EXE " "
WM.KEY Key to make Wildmail work.
X00.EXE Fossil Driver
All of the above files can be found on most Wildcat! BBS's that use
FrontDoor (FD) as their front end mailer. All are shareware and require a
nominal fee for registration. FrontDoor does not require registration in a
non-commercial environment. WM.KEY is required for Wildmail to function
and can be obtained from free from the author for a 30 day trial period.
At the end of that time, if you have not registered WM, the program ceases
to function.
GETTING STARTED
Create a directory called FD and ARC. After creating these directories,
create these sub-directories in the FD directory; BADECHO, FILES, INBOUND,
MESSAGES*, NETMAIL, NODELIST, and OUTBOUND. Unzip FD202.ZIP into the FD
directory and put all seven archive and packing files in the ARC directory.
Unzip WNODE151.ZIP, NODEUP.EXE and NODELIST.xxx to \WC30\DATA\ (created by
MAKEWILD when you set up your BBS). EDITNL.EXE and EDITNL.PRN go in the
FD directory and the fossil driver should be in the same directory as your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file. (X00 can be installed with your AUTOEXEC or CONFIG files.
To install as a device with the CONFIG.SYS file, rename X00.EXE to X00.SYS)
* MESSAGES is optional to NETMAIL (A personal judgement call here)
Using any suitable ASCII text editor, edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to
include FD and ARC directories in the PATH. (Recomend LIST90E using QEdit
or Xedit in place of DOS Edit)
After FD202 is unzipped to \FD and WM301 is unzipped to \WM30 directories,
in addition to several unused files, the FD directory should contain the
following files. (You may delete FD202 and WMAIL206 after they are unzipped)
EDITNL.EXE (Nodelist Editor) FM.EXE (FD Editor)
EDITNL.PRN (EDITNL DOCs) FM.OVR (Editor Overlay)
FD.EXE (FrontDoor Program) NAMES.FD (Address Utility)
FD.OVR (FronDoor Overlay) ROUTE.FD (Mail & File Routing)
FDNC.EXE (Nodelist Conpiler)
FDNC.OVR (FDNC Overlay)
FDSETUP.EXE (Configure FD for your system)
In addition to these files, there are five required files that are USER
created. These files are found at the end of this documentation and can
be copied into the FD directory.
EXEBBS.BAT - Passes Human callers to BBS
BANNER.TXT - Screen Display when caller dials in.
EVENT.BBS - Tell caller to call back later when event is over.
MAILER.BAT -
FAILED.TXT - Sends message that file request was not completed due to
password erro or file not locatd.
Now change directories to \WC30\DATA. Unzip WNODE151.ZIP into this
directory. At this point, the directory should contain WILDNODE.EXE,
NODEUP.EXE and NODELIST.xxx (xxx is the number of the day of the year the
nodelist was updated ie. NODELIST.360) in addition to the DATA files created
by Wildcat and MAKEWILD. These files are:
ALLUSERS.DAT TCNETUSR.DIA (TomCat)
ALLUSERS.IX TCNETUSR.IX (TomCat)
ALLFILES.DAT NODEINFO.DAT
ALLFILES.IX USERLIST.FDX
DOOR.DAT TCNETUSR.DAT
As with FD, there are two user created files required in this directory
that can be found at the end of this DOC. (FDNODE.CTL & WILDNODE.CFG)
Believe it or not, you are halfway done with the installation. At this
time we are ready to make the necessary changes in the MAKEWILD setup.
In the General Definition #1 area, make sure all DATA paths are
C:\WC30\DATA\. In General Definition #2, line #3 should be N and line #13
should be ZIP. In Modem Definition #1, if you are using a high speed
modem, lock the baud rate at 19200. In the Conferenc Definition, the
following conferences must be added exactly as they are shown here and
remember the number of each conference for later use:
NETMAIL, NETXXX (use the number of your net here)
HUBXXX (use your HUB number)
RGNXX (your region, also optional).
For demonstration purposes, we will assume they are conferences 7, 8, 9
and 10. Set the access for these conferences to SYSOP only. (You may want
to give your users NETMAIL access) That concludes the work in MAKEWILD.
You are now ready to set up FrontDoor. Change directory to FD and type
FDSETUP <Enter>.

Select EVENT Manager
# T Days M Start Length Lev Min Max Delay
0 @ -------A + 00:00 00:01 0 0 -1 0
This is a default event and cannot be removed from the system. It is most
important to set the Start Time to 00:00 as this is the reference point for
start of all events unless the start time is overridden (M). The user must
create at least 1 additional event which is National Mail Hour (ZMH).
# - Event Number
T - Tag (A-YZ) X=External Event
Days - Days event will be executed
M - Modifier (Events are scheduled from 00:00 Hour, +/-)
Start - Starting time
Length - Duration of event
Lev - Errorlevel
Min - Minimum cost
Max - Maximum cost, -1 disables
Delay - Retry delay
National Mail Hour (ZMH) is a required Event, a time set aside to make
certain your mailer is available to receive long distance calls. This hour
varies with the part of the world where you live. The schedule times are:
0400 - 0500 EST 1 hour later during EDT
0300 - 0400 CST " " " CDT
0200 - 0300 MST " " " MDT
0100 - 0200 PST " " " PDT
(If your area does not observe Daylight Savings Time, you are still
required to make the appropriate adjustment for your time zone.)
Select Ins from the menu at the bottom of the screen to begin creating
your first event. The Event number is selected automatically.
Tag = Z This could be any letter from A to Z except X (described
later)
Day ------- A Event will occur every day.
Modifier + Start time will be added to 00:00
Start 01:00 Event will start at 00:00 + 1 hour.
Length 01:00 Event is scheduled to last 1 hour.
Lev 0 Event does not require an ERRORLEVEL.
Min 0 Minimum Cost
MAX -1 Max Cost disabled.
Delay 0 No Retry Delay.
Our events now look like this:
# T Days M Start Length Lev Min Max Delay
0 @ -------A + 00:00 00:01 0 0 -1 0
1 Z -------A + 01:00 01:00 0 0 -1 0
2 X -------A * 01:59 00:01 80 0 -1 0
3 X -------A * 03:00 00:01 70 0 -1 0
Notice events 2 and 3 have an X Tag, a * Modifier and an intger ERRORLEVEL.
The X denotes it is an external event, * ignores the Modifier and forces
the event at the stated start time and the event exits FD with an
ERRORLEVEL of 80. This executes a command line in the MAILER.BAT file
which tell FD a file outside of FD is to be executed.
The basic setup for FrontDoor has been completed and now it is time to set
up the mail tosser. Switch to the \WM30\ directory and type WMCONFIG.
Assuming you have printed the Wildmail Doc file, from the \FD\WM30\
directory type WMCONFIG <ENTER> and with the docs handy, follow the screen
instructions, referring to the manual when necessary. When this is
completed and you have DOUBLE CHECKED all field entries for WMCONFIG in
accordance with the DOC file, you should be almost ready to run your
mailer.
Your have completed the basic installation of the Mailer and the Tosser,
but we need a few more files to make the program run. These are the user
created files as follows:
MAILER.BAT Starts FD and calls other files. FD Dir.
EXEBBS.BAT Starts Wildcat when a human caller is on line. FD Dir.
FDNODE.CTL Configures Dialing Format for FD. WC30\DATA\ Dir.
WILDNODE.CFG Configures Call Costs WC30\DATA\ Dir.
BANNER.TXT Displayed to when FD switches caller to BBS. FD Dir.
EVENT.BBS Displayed to caller during scheduled event. FD Dir.
FAILED.TXT Message sent when file request fails. FD Dir.
MAGIC.LST Locates files for FREQ FD Dir.
ROUTE.FD Mail routing FD Dir.
AREAS.BBS How WM learns Conference locations. FD\WM30 Dir.

Now that you have copied these files to the propper directory you are ready
for the final step in setting up FrontDoor.
Change directories to \WC30\DATA.
Type FDNC /f <Enter>. You are now compiling the nodelist and creating the
appropriate indexes for FrontDoor. When this program has completed its
run, type WILDNODE <Enter>. This will take somewhat longer than FNDC. You
are now compiling the nodelist and making the remaining Wildmail indexes
for Wildcat. When this is finished, type MAILER <Enter>. FrontDoor should
be up and running.
The author of this text file accepts no responsibility for the end result
of you endevors. If you need additional help, you can call the Ragged Edge
BBS at (206)852-6956. I will make as many of the needed files available
for downloading from my board.
If you are using a modem other than PPI 14400 you are on your own as far as
modem init strings are concerned. I cannot help you in this area.
If you are compiling your nodelist to include PVTLIST you may also want to
include this in your WILDNODE.CFG file. This file is used in conjuction
with WILDNODE.EXE to make the Fidonet Nodelist compatable with Wildcat.
Wildcat cannot read the Fidonet Nodelist. There are pros and cons for
inlcuding PVTLIST FDNET in WILDNODE.CFG. Here they are:
PRO - You and your users will be able to send Netmail to all the nodes
listed in your private networks while you are in Wildcat. You may
have up to 9 private nets listed in your FDNODE.CTL. FDNET is
created by FDNC when it compiles the Fidonet nodelist for FD.
CON - Extra nets come with a price tag. If they are included in your
WILDNODE.CFG, when WILDNODE compiles the nodelist, it will create
three files. WILDNODE.DAT, WILDNODE.IX, and WILDNODE.nnn. This
price tag here is the last file. It is a duplicate of the Fidonet
nodelist and will gobble up 2.5 Meg of you hard drive. If you do not
allow your users to send netmail to the private nets, I would
recomend that FDNET be omitted from WILDNODE.CFG. Keep in mind, 95%
of people listed on private nets also have a Fidonet address. If you
have HD space to burn, by all means, do you thing. Here is a sample
of WILDNODE.CFG including private nets.
