03-12-94 WELCOME TO WAZTREE V2.30
W H A T S N E W / D I F F E R E N T I N W A Z T R E E V 2 . 3 0 ?
==========================================================================
CHANGES TO WAZTREE V2.30
------------------------
■ Fixed bug where you could not copy read only files
■ Add feature to copy & move so if file source and destination are the same
name, size & time it will skip copy or move. You still are asked if you
want to overwrite automatically, however now WazTree will compare the
source and destination files and if name, size, and time stamp are
identical it won't even ask you if you want to overwrite. This makes
copying groups of files faster if the destination is identical to source.
I use this to back up my source files to floppy. I can check all files in
directory and it will only copy the ones I have changed since last copy.
■ When running other programs from WazTree there is an additional 3k of ram
available compared to before. The only problem this may cause for you is
that the F5 (dos) command will not work if command.com is not on the path.
If you find you cannot run DOS using the F5 command add to your path
statement in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file. Example: PATH=C:\; This puts the
root directory on the path and allows WazTree to find command.com it when
it uses F5 command.
■ Fixed config menu "WAZTREE CTRL Z", where UPZIP program selection did
nothing.
■ Minor cosmetic change to accommodate CGA monitors forcing blink off.
■ Fixed bug where if mouse was not installed you could not access HELP
even by pressing F1. (oops!)
■ Gave the calendar a bit of a face lift. It now prints three different
calendars, large single month size, year & a combination of year and the
present month, mouse pushbuttons, screen size etc... check it out.
■ Changed display while copying or moving files. It now displays progress
of bytes being copied or moved instead of just two alternate marks ■ █.
■ Added printer configure to allow choice of LPT1, LPT2 or LPT3. (default
is still LPT1)
■ Changed the way the configured editor works. It now will act like the
WazTree built in editor without the prompt. Just select the file and
hit F2 or Alt E.
■ If you hit ESC to abort when renaming a file or directory Waztree now
will not re-scan the whole directory. Waztree just re-scans when indeed
you have renamed successfully.
■ Added rename to menu if you enter menu from tree window (was only in menu
if you came from a directory window).
■ Changed the date & time set (Alt Y). It now displays both date and time
on screen at same time. Use tab key or click mouse on tab to toggle
between adjustment of date and time.
■ Added another print option "Print Raw". It will only ask how many lines
per page.
■ Added an option to start Application menu when Waztree is first run.
(default in not to)
■ A user guide/manual (WT230.MAN) is provided as text file which you can
print using Waztree or DOSs PRINT.COM.
■ Waztree will now attempt to configure WTMODEM.EXE, WTVOICE.EXE,
PKUNZIP.EXE, PKZIP.EXE and LHARC.EXE programs if they can be found
when WazTree is run. If these programs are in your WazTree directory
or on your PATH then you should not have to configure Waztree for
these files.
■ Fixed status statement when using menu to configure pause after running
program. (it was opposite of actual)
■ Fixed search [F7], where it told you to press enter for current drive
and always gave you only drive #0. This was left over from pre V2.00
when only one drive was supported in WazTree. While I was at it I made
it so it lists all valid drives available on system when it prompts for
which drive to search.
CHANGES TO WTMODEM V1.50
------------------------
■ Added ability to reset port if port will not open, basic a retry. Where
before you could get hung.
(I found problem if two ports were on same IRQ. You only had retry if
default was no good.)
■ Made changes to the Alt/R command routine which is also run when you
start a new copy of WtModem. It won't allow you to select a port that
WtModem can't open and use. It will also ask if you want to change
the entire phone list (40) Port & Baud. Selecting yes will change all
selecting no will change just the default which is what is used on start
up or in non-dial menu select terminal mode.
■ Changed status information at bottom of screen. Now it is simulating
leds (lights) similar an external modem. I have also changed the message
field so some messages could be truncated. Please me know if you have
problems with this change.
■ Removed a built in reset modem command on start up. Added a command to
manually reset modem (ATZ). Command Alt/J is now available if you want to
send reset to modem. You can also send ATZ by entering terminal mode Alt/T
and entering "Hayes command" ATZ <enter>. I also made changes to
commands sent to modem which should result in faster initialization of
port.
■ Added command F2 (same as Alt/E) for editing record so to be consistent
with WazTree.
■ I enlarged the dial window, added display of WTMODEM version and changed
ANSI to EMUL on frame. The new script feature has the selected script
file name displayed below window.
■ Added COM 1-4 IRQ information to help screen as well as new commands.
■ Restricted selection of Com 5-8 to IBM PS2 machines only if properly
detected when initialize or menu edit.
■ Added ability to attach a script file to each record and from terminal
send it to uart/modem by pressing F2 command in terminal mode. You need
to create the script file by using a text editor like the one in WazTree
or DOS's EDIT and save the file. Then via edit record there is a new
menu selection called Script which provides a simple way so select and
set to the record. When you execute the script (F2) WTMODEM will read
the script one character at a time and send it to uart/modem including
carriage returns. If you need delays for host use character ~ which
will provide about 5 second delay.
(Note: Character ~ will not be transmitted)
example:
John
Doe~
Password
^ This file would log you into a BBS where it asked for three items
after connect. You could add as much as you want to automate your
sessions. After the last name Doe there is a user specified 5 second
delay (~ <-not a transmitted character).
(I NEED INPUT FROM YOU ON THIS ONE)
■ Changed file list format for WTMODEM.LST. For versions below V1.5 the
files size is 3040 bytes. Starting with V1.5 the file size is 5880 bytes
for the same 40 records. All I have done is removed storage of the
dividers │ between items and added the script file space. WTMODEM.EXE V1.5
will automatically detect and modify your old file so you should not need
to re-enter all your records.
■ Added command Alt/C which provides ability to copy an item from one
record to another in dial window.
■ Added command Alt/D which provides ability to delete an item (sets the
item to WTMODEM default).
■ Added ability to store capture file name which WTMODEM will remember from
session to session.
■ Added ability to automatically redial and specify the number of retries
(WTMODEM default is 10). Change retry number via F5 option window.
■ Fixed bug in download for ascii & xmodem protocol where you could not
download using these protocols no matter what file you entered. Sorry
about that one I use Zmodem all the time and nobody told me.. big wooops!
■ Added a configure toggle for prompt on exit (WTMODEM default is to
prompt before quitting). Adjust via option menu F5.
■ Added F10 command for adjusting screen size on ega/vga screens. Keep
in mind if you use this command it clears screen to set new terminal
window size. The remote you are connected to will not know that you
cleared your screen. Try to toggle to what you want prior to session
start.
■ Last date on is now based on you connecting or using as terminal mode
not just selecting a choice on dial list as before.
■ Added ability for WTMODEM to automatically return to dial menu when the
modem has no data carrier. This can be turned on or off via the option
window (F5). (hope it's what you wanted Lee!).
■ Added ability to display what your dial menu selection was while on line
in case you forgot who you called. Pressing the F7 command will display
your last dial choice at the bottom of the screen for about a second
without destroying what the host has displayed on your terminal. (hope
this helps too Lee!).
■ Added sendbreak command Alt/B.
■ Added a option (F5) to allow you to specify your own Hayes AT command to
be used when modem is set up (default ATQ0X3).
Note: To use WTMODEM as a terminal with selected settings set up record
with all parameters except do not enter phone number. Leaving
phone number as ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░░ and selecting it will set
uart/modem to those settings and go directly to terminal mode.
■ Added additional information on screen attempting to identify which
port the modem is installed on when first run or reset Alt/R.
■ Added Alt/P command for printing phone list.
■ Added command Alt/H for Host mode. This simply puts you modem in auto
answer mode. You could use this to connect to another computer via
phone and exchange files and chat. It's not a BBS its just a crude way
to connect to a friend.
(I NEED INPUT FROM YOU ON THIS ONE TOO)
CHANGES TO WTVOICE V1.20
------------------------
■ Removed Esc from prompt exit (irrelevant).
■ Added command F2 (same as Alt/E) for editing record so to be consistent
with WazTree.
■ Added Alt/P command for printing phone list.
■ Changed command Alt/P to Alt/C for changing COM Port.
■ Made minor cosmetic changes moving version, enter and esc meaning on
screen.

4. Tips on using WazTree
------------------------
* You can set up formatting diskettes using Application menu.
For example if you have a 1.2m floppy and want to format 360k
set up the following application than when you want to format
360k floppies just select it. Set up: Press F4 to get
Applications, press F2 with mark over blank application, enter
ie. C:\DOS\FORMAT.COM A:/F:360 <enter> then name the
application "format A: as 360k". You could set one up for
each of the type of floppies you have then formatting will be
a easier.
* If you don't want to use Waztree's editor then you can specify
your own by command ctrl z and after the ID entry you can
specify complete path and name of your editor.
* If you use your own editor and edit the same file often you
might want to enter the editor and document in an Application
selection. Example of Application command line:
C:\EDITOR\ED.EXE MYDOC.DOC
* If you don't want to use Waztree's modem (wtmodem) or voice dialer
(wtvoice) then you can specify your own by command ctrl z and after
the ID entry and editor you can specify complete path and name of
your programs to put in there place.

"WazTree help"
Please provide the following information:
- Registration number (if registered)
- Computer brand and model, and the brands and model numbers of
any additional hardware.
- Operating system and version number (you can determine the
version number by typing VER at the DOS prompt). (WazTree
requires V3.3 or higher)
- Contents of your AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
- Contents of your CONFIG.SYS file.
6. Using Mouse Drivers with EGA and VGA Graphics Cards
------------------------------------------------------
Early versions of mouse drivers don't support screen display modes
larger than 80 columns by 24 lines. As a result, your mouse driver
might not work correctly when you use WAZTREE enhanced display
modes EGA 80x43 or VGA 80x50. The following chart will assist you
in determining if your mouse driver will work correctly with the
enhanced display modes. You can usually get an updated driver via
BBS's.
Mouse Version that supports EGA 80x43 and VGA 80x50

8. Shareware
------------
Shareware (also known as user supported software, try before you buy and other
names) is a concept not understood by everyone. The authors of Shareware
retain all rights to the software under the copyright laws while still allowing
free distribution. This gives the user the chance to freely acquire and try
software to see if it is appropriate for his or her needs. Shareware should
not be confused with Public Domain software even though they are often acquired
from the same sources. If you continue to use Shareware after trying it out,
you are expected to register your use with the author and pay a registration
fee. What you get in return depends on the author, but may include a printed
manual, free updates, telephone support, etc. Only by paying for the Shareware
you use do you enable the Shareware author to continue to support his software
and create new programs. Considering that the Shareware registration fees are
almost always far less than the purchase price of comparable commercial
software it's obvious that Shareware is a good deal for everyone. There are
genuine advantages to you in the Shareware system. You get to try out
software to make sure it is compatible with your hardware and that it fits your
needs before you "buy" it with your registration. The author saves the expense
of advertising, packaging and distribution and passes the savings on to you.
Plus, most Shareware authors are much more accessible and gracious than
commercial software sources so that your questions and suggestions are much
more likely to be responded to.
Again thank you for your support.
